<div class="IPBDescription">It exists....technically</div> Did you know that you can play a single player game of NS? I was reminded of this 'bug' in the HL engine by Flayra's <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=34852' target='_blank'>post</a> of the oldest NS screenshots which showed marines in the Black Mesa map.
So, how can you play NS as a single player game? Simple. Activate the custom game NS. And either start your own lan game or just open the console. In the console use the command 'changelevel' to change the map to one of the single player maps. It should now start you in one of the regular HL maps and if you are lucky all of the scripted sequences in the maps should work.
I haven't tried this trick in a while so the procedure might be a bit off. As soon as I reinstall NS (new 120gig hd <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->) I will test out the exact procedure you need to follow to accomplish this task.
You will also need to know the cheat commands because HL is easily confused by a multiplayer game and you could end up spawned in a wall or other unlucky place.
The following mods are also fun to try out this trick: DoD and RocketCrowbar. DoD is especially odd when watching Gordon Freeman running around with an M1 Garand <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Try it out and let me know if you get it to work with NS.

I wonder if the cant join any team problem could be fixed by using an plugin that autoforces a team...
I haven't run a server with it but I have seen servers that have a built in autojoin if someone doesnt join a team in 30 seconds or so. I think it would solve the problem here. Does anyone know what plugin it is?
Hullu, voogru, Them?
man that would be cool if you could play HL as a skulk/lerk/fade <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Onos would be better <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->
Unfortionatly, I think you can only be marines... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
It displays a tooltip like "You'll spawn soon" or "No slots available"
Onos would be better <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Onos wouldn't fit through the hole that appears near where that picture was taken. Nor would it fit in the many vents in the game. Though Onos V. Guargantian would be SWEET.
On-topic: I play NS single-player often, testing WhichBot. So you're more right about single-player existing than you thought. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I can kill headcrabs with the pistol or the crowbar without any problem at all... I need to take the MP5 if there's too many of them.
That's one nice thing about NS - given the strong Alien/Aliens influences, it's almost shocking there's no headcrab equivalent...
Have you tested if you can spawn creatures in multiplayer games? Do they produce so much lag? (and in a XP 2400, 1 GB DDR333?), and whose creatures that you say that wont die....do you refer to the adult Gargantues, who only can be killed by explosive weapons? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyways, i'm going to create a server and test it this afternoon...i've already installed both metamod and the plugin... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I'll cry of happiness if i can create a lot of headcrabs and munch them as a <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway...
I really have to try this single player thingy, looks cool. Do any of the give weapon_xxx cheats work? I would love to go thru HL single player with a gl or a half-decent shotty... Also, can you give yourself ammo? And what type do you need? (I guess 9mm for lmg/hmg and .357 for the pistol)
On which map was it ? It doesnt work for me ): ( and DOD neither )
Only putting as active monsters the headcrab, zombie and bullsquid don't give me any problems (in ns_hera)....i have to test adding more monsters, to know where's the limit....
One more note: Aliens are invincible in normal mode. You MUST configure the server in TOURNAMENT mode in order to get killable aliens.
For Cypher, who wrote: "Headcrabs are easy to kill - they stick out like a sore thumb and only take three pistol bullets (on Hard difficulty). They also do a puny amount of damage and move really slowly (unless they are leaping obviously...)"...
At least with the monster plugin you can edit the health and the amount of damage-per-attack that can do the aliens by editing "monster_skill.cfg"...
I have one last doubt...how damn can I see the coordenades of the map in order to put spawn points for the alien-bots? Is there any utility, or console command that show you the coordenades of the point where you are?
