Victory Text In Future Versions

<div class="IPBDescription">What do you think of the current one?</div> I didn't find any topics about this one so the issue must be pretty old or I'm using wrong keywords.

What do you think about the victory text in 1.xx (I've understood the same text is still in 1.1)? Is it enough for you to hear after one and a half hour of intense fighting, sweating as a gorge and sacrificing your blood for the team the same old: "Team 2 has won blah blah". 4 seconds and your victory is gone. NSPlayer and Imanewbie ask which team won. All your built WOLs, the huge amount of RTs you've managed to set up and the healing outposts near hives are taken away and you are cruelly kicked into the readyroom. Should there be a more pompous music, text and possibly a graphics display? Picture this:

---
*A picture of a half-eaten marine with his heavy armor scretched apart and blood all over the walls is shown*
*Music like in Aliens (1,2,3...) is played*

Text appears:
"The kharaa have obliterated the humans. The humans try to make their last desperate stand in the space station/ship, but are quickly torn apart and eaten by the bloodthirsty kharaa. The horrible screams still echo in the hallways as the kharaa advance forward towards planet Earth"
---

Or do you think there shouldn't be any "reward" in the end?

Thank you for your comments!

There should definatly be some kind of more prominant victory/loss message.
Half the the time I never even see it or hear the music and have to check that i didn't accidently hit F4.
Plus in long stalemated maps, the game suddenly ends due to an imbalance and no one knows who won.

You fade-to-black when the end-game music plays. I really don't think Flayra will be adding much more than that as there are many other more important things that he is concerned with for the next patch.

Hell, I keep hearing the 'game over' music during the game for whatever reason, and every time I have to look in the bottom-right corner to see if there's a little message informing me that someone has won. There definitely should be some kind of result screen. I always liked the Science & Industry one, where it shows a kind of motivational poster for your corporation, either with a 'Great Job' or a 'Work Harder' vibe - it fits in with the style of the game and it lets you know exactly who won

Even a fade-to-black would work, with some kind of speech sample to let people know what happened - a marine voice over the radio, saying 'Good work men, we're going home' or some long heavily-reverbed alien scream. It's a bit of a let-down to play a game and have to ask people who won when the next starts

The aliens sound pack says Game Over Man when the marines loose while the music plays. I'll have to look into that....

Yeah I'd like to have a nice end-game VGUI screen... with for example some basic stats inside (marine buildings built, alien chambers built, etc...) but not too much.
    And a bigger victory message!!

    Hrm.... How about this:

    Marines Lose:

Screen fade to black, music is played, then fades up to a closeup shot of a fade, an alien hive behind it, and possibly a sulk somewhere else. Nothing too bloody.... just a really kewl alien picture *make sure the background "room" looks infested too*

    Aliens Lose:
Screen fades yet again, only this time, it's a picture of a JP, a HA, and a few other marines, all standing infront of the com chair.... if you want, you could throw in a dead sulk or 2.. but again, nothing bloddy

Either way, at the bottom, in nice bold letters, it says who won... "The Kharra have won." or "The TSA is Victoriuos!"

Now, just add some sweet victory/loss music.. and I'd be more than happy

    lol Macguyvok: whats a sulk,

it be nice to see stats maybe in a txt file or something. i personally think it be cool is the losing team would have to watch the other team celebrate like in unreal tournament/2003 ... i think it would be great

Well keep in mind the victory screen should be quick enough to prevent redundancy. I mean, the design should be good enough so that you can look at it 90 times without getting annoyed by it.

How about the screen fades to black, and simple text pops up. The text fades out, and the screen fades back in, and you're in the ready room.

    "The Marines won the round."
    "The Aliens were victorious."

    Something simple.

    i agree, something simple

but something in the style of S&I would also be nice....

    Weeeelllll....
I changed my titles.txt(and posted it up a long time ago) so it says:
    Kharaa has won! Abandoning ship/station...
    and
The TSA has won! Cleaning up infestation...
, and several out-of-date tidbits in it.
If you want it... Download from attachment, and put it in your Half-Life\ns dir.
You might want to backup your old one.

I was just wondering...if the Kharaa have one how can the marines abandon the ship/station? They are all dead!

A big, bloody finale screen isn't likely to happen. Flayra doesn't want gore and such in NS. A flashy finale, though... that'd be cool. Scripted sequence style, or something.

I like the idea of Marines posing for a "winner shot" in front of the cleaned hive room. Just a piece of artwork or something, a pic that clearly spells out "We are teh pwn" to the losers (as if it weren't bad enough to begin with). Something like it for the aliens too, f.x. an infested version of the marine spawn, with green stuff on the walls, slime on the floor and evil evil chambers everywhere (or perhaps even a hive going up in there?).

I'm sure that Half-Life engine does not like any kinda pictures in game apart from sprays and sprites... But hey, I don't know.

What about the background pic for the console? That one's too low-res to be pretty though; would it be possible to increase the resolution on it?
Or perhaps simply make the pictures a texture and then create a small room somewhere where the wall is textured with it, then shift your view to that room when you win/lose?

There is a mod called Poke464 that has plenty of them. HL shouldn't have much trouble.

I think anything would be better than now...I have to drop the console down to find out right now...You know, unless I'm the last one to die, or there's like 10 oni in the spawn.
