A simple plee.
Over the last few days i've been playing more and more NS, and i've noticed that marines hardly ever loose.
now dont let my post count fool you, i've been playing since Oct31st, and have been in a fair few clan matches, so dont think i'm just some noob complaining about team stacking, but...
The only skill these days seems to be in who can go marines first, everyone stacks the marine side, and what ensues is a marine dominating map.
We all know this, we've all played this, and we know that 1.1 will hopefully fix this.
The thing is 1.1 seems like its miles away, so many new things being added and tested and changed.
And so many ppl are just stopping playing all together.
Could we just have a simple serverside patch to hold us over?
When i say simple i mean something like JPs cost more to research and buy, and hives cost less.
Nothing more just a very simple fix.
This would keep NS interesting and give you all more time to programe in new features and test them thouroughly.
Thanks for your time

Hive cost reduced to 70
Sensory Chambers increased to 250 res (so no one can build them first!!!)
JP research- 35
JP- 12 a peice
Double Hive Self Regen
Increase hive life to 8500 (current is 7000 or so)
Those would be handy...
And change server mate. Or just ask (before a clanmatch) the other team not to make JPHMG combo. I think lots of team would agree and the game would just become a lot nicer to play
No, the problem is that jps are used the way they weren't meant to be used. I've seen fair amount of games won by HAs, but those games usually takes much longer time.
but moaning about it isnt going to help. Just hold on a little longer.
My take on it: it took them some time (1.04 has been around for a while) but now marines have found out just how weak aliens are during the startgame, and they have found out they can have Jetpack + HMG before aliens have 2nd hive.
I'm pretty sure, if some would do the numbers, it would show the aliens need more time and/or more resources to obtain a comparable level of upgrades as marines.
To get fades, aliens need at least some 3 to 4 res nodes, that's 66 to 88 res points. Then they need to spend 80 on a hive. Then wait, like 2 minutes or so, for the hive to grow, during which the hive is easy to kill. (build OC and DC? yeah the gorg just spend all his res on that hive...) Then spend another 54 per fade.
Only then do aliens have a decent counter to HMG and JP.
That's way to late if the marines got their act together. In order to win, all the marines need in addition to JP HMG is decent aim and a non-noob comm.
Then no amount of skill on part of the skulks is going to help them.
So every other game doesn't last more then a few minutes, after which not even the marines bother to say "GG", cause it's obvious to all it wasn't a good game.

i know i know
gotta be patient
but if they were to release a 1.05 patch, with just a few tiny changes, it would make the waiting so much easier
There has been a million other posts crying about 1.4, why not post this under that, even if your idea is *slightly* different.
The hive cost-reduction is not because it was priced so high in v1.0x, but more a reflection of the new resource system, as gorges DON'T get increased RP.
And why would you want to lock off Sensories? They're still a good way to get in a fun match, against blind Marines who somehow can't see the cloaking. :b I'd actually be for making them 25RP temporarily so that newbie Gorges won't just build the cheapest upgrade chamber first, on accident.
Just an hour ago, I saw two games in a row ruined by a marine team lowly enough to build siege in the furnace near feedwater hive. People will always play to win and these problems are not going to vanish as long as people are able to cause them. Asking for our patience, contempt, maturity and good choice of servers is closing your eyes to a trend that is already seriously hurting the NS community (especially the "silent" part that is not on the forums and thinks NS will always suck).
It´s true that many many servers are empty most of the time and more and more servers are being taken down.
An official statement on this matter would be great.
The thing is, chamber order doesn't matter one jot if you have a competent alien team. One of the servers I play on (one with a nice crowd of regulars, who know each others' play styles) quite often sees sensory going down first, often followed by movement. Guess what? The aliens still win, because sensory isn't a bad chamber.
Cloaking is only useful at the start anyway, becasue when marines get MT its effectiveness is considerably reduced. Then when they get MT, get yourself scent and you're laughing.
It's only peoples' inexplicable need for cara that enforced def chambers as the #1 drop anyway. In the first couple of weeks of release, you'd see chambers going down in any order and it was always effective, because people, still learning the game, were willing to adapt.
I only hope that 1.1 changes some of that, with the carapace slowdown and fades' increasing dependence on melée making carapace much less common (celerity-scent-regen fades all the way, baby!).

Oh, and kind of on-topic in a responding to the first post kind of way, in my experience it's pretty even who wins - if anything, the aliens win more than the marines at the moment.
Its the regen adren fades that annoy me tbh, always standing in the background shooting.... but yeah i 1.05 patch isnt needed, would have been nice about a month ago tho.
just go to console and type: connect ns.voogru.net
It's a catch twenty-two at the moment which could be solved with a quick 1.05 pactch but if 1.1 is just around the corner why even bother? Voogru and kingkahuna servers seem to have about a 50 to 50 win ratio depending on the skill of gorges/coms.

Usually people go defense chamber first because once the marines have the second or third weapons upgrade, any non-carapaced alien dies very quickly. Skulks no longer become viable, and any fade without defensive upgrades will die to 2 marines shooting at it. (with lmgs)
Thats why dcs usually go first. Not only to heal everything near them, but because their upgrades are the best. Sure, cloacking at 1st hive is very fun and effective, sometimes its impossible to see a cloacked skulk on a dark corner, then after you turn around, youre dead. But once jetpacks come, cloacking won't help you chase the marines, and you'll be very vulnerable. Scent of fear? Yeah, it is good to get the newbie marines that walk alone, but if you are on a team, your comm will most likely drop medpaks.
king kahuna's servers no longer use my main mod ("NSAdmin"), which is the mod that changes around all the balance.
also, its possible to change te costs and jetpacks and stuff, but its very icky :/.
BTW, you guys won't belive just how viable sensory as a first chamber really is in 1.1
