I also agree. Parasiting them helps keep a tab on people AND also stop those rambo's getting a PG next to your hive.
Because you want to stay stealthy, choose to do it at any of these times.

There is lots of noise (they won't even notice being hit by parasite until after a while)
They are at the limit of your parasite range and you are near a corner
First time they are going to see you (the sudden appearance is not always expected and they might not fire straight away)
You are hidden well and know they won't find you
Any time you feel is right (learning is your friend)

I have been in an enemies base before, parasiting EVERY single marine that left. Some wouldn't notice because the room was making lots of noise or a skulk was close by. Some would stop and look around. It took them 10 minutes before one found me (Diese!) but I had parasited so many, our team always knew where they were going to build, when they would attack our hive and how many, and which hive they were located at. This gave gorges lots of warning time to hide, and skulks great opportunities to set up ambushes.
Parasiting combined with good teamwork and stealth tactics can be as deadly as the kill itself. It wastes lots of their res and gains your team precious time to get a second hive up.

No matter how much noise I ALWAYS hear when someone parasites me. What I don't notice until too late - a faraway lerk spiking me. A bit unrealistic since if it actually happened I'd know through feeling pain...but still. When I hear a lerk spike's sound it almost resembles a faint version of a marine ammo-humping. And when it suddenly clicks what I've actually heard I die as I try to make my getaway...

I played a game the other day on ns_nothing where the marines had cargo, suprise. :/ I was going for some battle gorging through the vent to cargo, as I get to the end I hear a marine. So I just tuck myself into the left corner after going through the vent and kept absolutely still. this HA+HMG walks over jumps up and down, doesn't see me. Then actually jumps on the ledge and looks through the vent, then down again, then up again and goes through the vent. Should have heard my team laughing, LOL. Then a jet packer came who wasn't so blind.
I like using stealth as a rine, its surprising how many aliens you can sneak past. I've even taken down RT's by slowly sneaking my way past several fades.

Stealth is fun. I always go silence when skulk, unless I know I'll be fighting jetpacks...in which i'll grab adren. But stealth is awesome! On EVERY alien movie ever made, the aliens always appear out of nowhere, grab a guy, kill him, and go back before the rest of the squad notices. Remember the SC video where the Marines were infiltrating the science vessel? (I got your Zerg right here, heh heh heh. *slice*) Should be like that.

I remember one game, at the end when we were going to lose, i was hidden by noname (as a marine, on the map with port engine, subspace, and noname). I was in the corner of the corridor right outside, and the aliens kept running by. The comm had built outside (i think that is stupid, but that is a different issue), and while the aliens were tearing up our base the commander had me build an observatory so he could use distress beacon. Unfortunately the marines and structures there eventually drew attention to me, but I was amazed at how well it worked.
My favourite moment where i used stealth and claoking had to be on bast. We had gotten sensory first(cus i love it+i'm persuavive ), and i had gone to atmos processing and sat under that huge pipe place. Then a marine came aloing, a tf dropped down, and they started building it. I ran straight up(he was almost on top of me), adn bit his face. Death. Then, i went and sat on TOP of the tf, whcih was unbuilt, and my ENTIRE team was sitting cloaked all around it. I saw the marine comeing and told them all to stay put. He walked right up, looked me in the face, and started building. straight away i started bighting, he died in 2 secs flat, and my entire team burst out laughing
My only successful time using stealth as a marine was when I evaded a pair of Fades heading to marine start. We had motion tracking up,so I saw two blips heading my way. I figured they'd be Skulks or something, but when I recognised the sound of Fades incoming I decided it'd be best if they didn't see me. I hid in the corner of some kind of airlock thing (you know the one, it's got those thick double-doors on both ends?). The two Fades ran right past me, didn't even see me. If I'd picked up that shotgun before I left I probably could have gotten a kill
As a Skulk I prefer being direct rather than using stealth. I hide in a vent nearby whatever hive the marines try to take and keep popping out to parasite them. With regen and some luck I can normally keep two or three marines occupied watching the vent for a few seconds/minutes (depends on how long I live in the vent), which provides some stealth for everyone else, I suppose. Plus the sound of my regeneration can sound like there's something building in the vent. Always fun when I hear the sound of a siege trying to find my non-existant D chambers.

Im a part n00b and i havent read all the posts but i find a good tactic is going to a potencial hive site as a skulk (cloaking not realy needed at start) hide in a dark corner in a roof with a good veiw of the room and when a lone rine come in let im sit around for awhile to give him a fals sense of secrurity and when he starts standing still (if) crawl directly above him parasite him 1 or 2 time then drop on him and eat him for dinner. I can't wait for 1.1 silence.. although I can imagine celerity would be much more useful as skulks have 20 armour, but it will still be great for messing around.

Carapace will still be quite useful. It doesn't just add to your armor points, it also makes each point of armor more helpful.
Ok ok ok ok ok... why is it that nobody mentioned the BEST lvl 3 skulk combo ever??? lvl 3 Regen, lvl 3 CLOAKING, and LVL 3 SILENCE! You regenerate silently and abotu 95% invisible! They can't see you, hear, you, and when you uncloak, they think you only have 2 hp cause they put a clip of LMG into you before hand. heh heh... funny how your health comes back when you are alien, isn't it Mr. Marineo

You ARE being sarcastic right? If not, let me enlighten you on your one error: never get regeneration as skulk. You'd regenerate about 3 hps per what...3 seconds? A firefight against a skulk with no carapace (which takes only 8-9 bullets to kill depending on upgrades) = wayyy less then 3 seconds. Plus, you can't cloak while moving. Besides, at three hives, XENOCIDE

Of course, you're hosed if actual marines show up to reinforce the farm (as regen in useless in combat).
IMO, this is one of the main reasons for the death of the Turret Creep Strategy. A single regenerating skulk, given enough time, can kill any number of turrets.
I don't agree with regeneration being useless in combat. Early game it is pretty good to stop marines expantions. You don't need to run back to gorgy or base for healing. Since a marine only hit you once in a while because you spin around him, regen lvl3 is quite helpfull. 20 health per 2 seconds or something. Of course, if you plan on attacking running down a corridor or in a big room where 3 marines can shoot at you, forget regen. You can even stay alive with regen ! You health drop to 0, but at the same time you get a regen point, and live to fight another day !
ChurchMeatshield grunt-fodder // Has pre-ordered NS2Join Date: 2002-12-31Member: 11646Members, Constellation
I think you've got your regen numbers wrong. It' more like 8 or 9 hp per 'tick' which is about 3 seconds. If you get 20 hp in 2 seconds as a skulk, I would take regen sometimes as well.
Step one at effective hiding... HIDE IN OBVIOUS SPOTS....... believe it or not... rines DO focus on thier crosshairs... and they know all the good hiding spots... so if you hide in an unobvious spot, they will never find you usually
Example that happend just last night.... had like 5 res... ran into viaduct, and hid at base of ladder in corner.. they owned this hive... no turrets could shoot me there... i was out in open.. saved nuff for gorge.. went gorge.. stayed there.... no less than 3 jet packers looked at me and then jetpacked away.... i saved up around 50 res... then started building d chambers... got up 2 d chambers and was makin my 2nd o when i finally started getting shot at... finished the o and hid...... then made an o around the corner in a way that the d chambers could heal it.... made a 3rd d when i was finally killed.. ending my building rush......
Another example.. ns nancy... hid in between the 2 chairs at marine start base.... and sited EVERYONE who came out..... for about 15 minutes... it was hilarious.. spawn.. site.. spawn.. site... RIGHT IN THE OPEN..... we won cuz we knew where they all were... and no one thought to turn around and shoot me....
ANother hiding place that is good is under the grating at sewer but not on the floor...... so ur kinda sandwiched... no one ever looks there either... good for siting...
a few more.... outside comp core.. the dark blue area... right in the middle.. NOT a corner..... yes they walk right towards u.. but never fire
and one last one...... the wall in maintenance right above the hive...... directly above it... the shadow of where the hive should go obscures you this will work in most hives also....

Sometimes on my favourite server (Roo's ) when we know we have already won from the beginning because we skulk rushed their rt and they have virtually nothing we get MC first. Its great fun and if they marines recover then we can always get DC at the second hive.
I can't wait for 1.1 silence.. although I can imagine celerity would be much more useful as skulks have 20 armour, but it will still be great for messing around.
[edit] If the marines get MT you are generally screwed with silence and you are too weak to have just celerity[/edit]
maybe it's good to change to adrenaline then.
If you camp then you should use cloak.. but scanner sweep renders that useless also
I've had great use out of adrenaline. Unlike a fade shooting rockets, a skulk can literally bite non-stop with adrenaline. I've destroyed many res towers with one session of biting instead of biting, stopping then starting again.
Carapace will still be quite useful. It doesn't just add to your armor points, it also makes each point of armor more helpful.
It's handy for taking out unsupported turret farms. Of course, you're hosed if actual marines show up to reinforce the farm (as regen in useless in combat).
IMO, this is one of the main reasons for the death of the Turret Creep Strategy. A single regenerating skulk, given enough time, can kill any number of turrets.
