I like the new Blink(though haven't tried it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->). It would be pretty sweet if Fade would have enhanced vision when blinked, maybe black'n'white vision from AvP <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Edit: Also it would pretty nice if Fades could jump higher when using Blink so that they get back some of that vertical movement advantage.

Actually, that's what I've been wondering too.

I think the best implementation of blink would be that it lasted for a short time(5 seconds or so), enabled you to go trough walls(if the blink ran out while in the wall, meterialize in the closest non-void position, if that's possible in HL), and let you fly like a spectator. That way, the stories from the manual about fades going trough walls would be true, and it'd be one hell of an effect <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

you move at an incredible speed, you are able to cross most maps in less then 30 seconds. if you had a leaping skulk that leaped forever this would be comparable to the speed.

You can take damage when you teleport, and im not sure if you guys read but when you teleport you are partialy invisible (depending on ping) and it is possible to see where you move wiht out a scan, but even if scan did work (which I dont think it does) it would be usless because the fades speed.

    *sniffs*

    i almost cried outloud when i read no more vertical movement <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

my favourite trick of all time on ns_bast when we had three hievs was so stand at the bottom of the elevator with ocs and regen, blink next to the roof, fire off some bile bombs on the way down at imho very suprised marines and heal up, and do it over and over

    always got a roaring laugh/cheer from the losing marine side <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->:D:D

I second that... The skulks and lerks are supposed to be the only super fast forms , the fade having more maneuvrability than an onos and less than theses. If I get it right , the blinking/clawing madness we have right now sounds more like an ersatz for the lerk dogfights (cough...) than a surprise attack. Since hive 1 fades aren't that strong , having them backstab marines by blinking through walls doesn't seem unbalanced (it would be a risky tactic , if losing too much stamina they couldn't blink away)

Oh yeah, a 5-10 seccond cloaked no-clip funtime ability... pitty to think about the fade that gets stuck in a wall.

Click your mouse button: You Blink (Your cloak and your speed potential increases to say... x2.5)

You instantly lose .18 Adrenaline Points

You have 4 seconds before you will automatically uncloak.

Attacking will automatically take you out of Blink.

Why is this a good idea?

It keeps you from running from place to place completely invisable.

It puts you on a timer. Suppose you are a marine and you see a Fade open a door, he blinks. Being an experienced player, you know just about the time he will unblink if he does not attack. It adds suspense as each marine in the room mentally counts "1....2.....3.....OMG RAWR!". It also adds creepyness if the Fade blinks, and then runs away (i.e. "1......2......3.................4............4.5................ Uh, guys.... where is he?"<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Having read all ideas....

<span style='font-size:18pt;line-height:100%'>I really think this is the best solution!!!!!</span>

I am sure I will learn to have alot of fun with the new blink, but it sucks to lose the teleporting version, you can do some very interesting things with teleporting.

my favorite trick is to blink up onto the rafters and wait for a marine to walk below, nobody ever expects a fade on the ceiling.

that walking through walls idea would be hella cool, but maybe hard to implement, but I think if you run out of energy inside the wall you should get stuck and your energy should recharge at like 1/8 speed so you have to wait a while before you can get out.

well as I have understood it, you mean cloaking is SEPERATE from blink. Which I think is wrong.

Nah he means it's been changed to a 'slot cloak'. Read the other posts and it's pretty clear blink has been replaced by this new version.

Personally I would rather the old version... just with the collision fixed up (so you dont get stuck). It'd be great if the teleport ignored func_doors etc too... so you could blink through em, but it might not be possible or put too much strain on the server or something to fix up. I think insta-cloaking and a large speed boost could be too powerful if the energy drain stays low (as ppl have said). Kinda combines super-celerity with cloaking-on-the-move..

    Teleporting is just damn cool <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

But energy use/speed boost etc is all gonna be playtested so all good. And then there's the 2 hive ability...

as I understood it, it means you access CLOAK (not blink+cloak) by firing. as in "you access [cloak: antescedent = cloak slot] just as if you would access your pisto. Using Fire activates the cloaking [without blinking"

but blink includes cloak and cloak isn't a weapon of its own really.

I like the current blink. If you know how to do it (jump, crouch, aim at ceiling above target) you can really fly around the map. I'm not a PT, so I can't comment. But I'd rather see the current code improved so as to stick less than a new blink. An expereiced faders want to tell my why this version is better?

I'm wondering if the new blink was at all inspired by my post awhile ago:
    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=18625&hl=blink%20change&st=0' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...k%20change&st=0</a>
    It certainly is very similar

If I understand how the new blink works, you cloak for about 5 seconds, during which time you travel about 2.5 times faster and can go through walls? But you cant travel vertically?

If this is true I expect it to be very cool, I can image a group of marines in mess hall, then suddenly 3, well organised fades appear behind them and start clawing them to death.

*Quick Note to Jabba* (About the Mess Hall Scenario) That's how blink is now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

*EDIT* I guess I'll clarify... What you said is how blink is in 1.04. What (as far as I can tell) it is now is that the Marines <i>might</i> see a sihlouette of a figure moving insanely fast around them (if they have good eyes), they will probably loose track of it, crap thier pants, and then realize they are getting hit from behind <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Blink in 1.1 is going to be far superior over 1.04 for a few reasons:

    1)less stuckage
    2)you cloak while blinking
3)you can "control" the blink, think running forward REALLY fast.

well this is how Khaim described it in IRC anyway <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeah but any decent marine will see the fade blink and check behind him, and I was thinking of them going through the wall.

btw, when I go through walls in spectator mode anywhere on the screen that a model isnt there (or map location) saves the image of what was there, to kinda produce a blurry effect (I think its my Geforce 2) anyway will this be the same when i go through walls as a fade, and does anyone know how i can stop it?

I'll try to assemble these ideas into one coherent one that I think would be the best combination.

I think blink would be most atmospheric and most fun if it was activated by attacking with blink, producing the current blue cloud effect where you were. It would also allow invisible freelook flight at high speed, say celerity skulk. While blinking the adrenaline would be drained at a constant rate until you attack with any weapon (including blink), and giving that nice blue cloud effect again. If you ran out of adrenaline you would exit blink.

Invulnerability would be a possible option that would need to be tested.

No-clip movement would also be a possible option, the problem would be the newbies as someone else said.

Imagine smacking a marine in the face straight out of blink, then blinking again to place two claws in his backside, I can't think of many things that would be more fun, you could also lower the fade health if need be since it wouldn't be exposed to enemy fire as much.

Jabba, that is the standard effect for the void. As your video card isnt told what to render, it just renders the previous frame, and it cannot be stopped. Also it is very unlikely thatblink will be able to go through walls, mainly because of stuck reasons, and also this anti-atmospheric void effect.

In my opinion, the way the new blink sounds is brilliant. What I dont like is the current visual and sound effects for blink. IMO the blink sprites should be something less florecent, the bright purple jetpack sprites really dont suit the blink. Also the sound should be something closer to the cloaking sound, more of a "whooosh" than the strange mechanical-sounding warble we have now.

although i aint played it i would have thought that hmg would just rip the fades open easily with the spray reduction. thats if they didnt have blink.

As the fades just become cloaked, is it a 100% cloak or the mostly invisible we get now, and also i'd imagine that you can still hear the fade legging it around (would be quite disconcerting for marine if he couldnt quite work out where footsteps coming from).

when you come out of the blink - (assuming that its the hold fire down to blink) - then can you come out of it by changing weapons rather than releasing the fire key, i mean, can you appear ready to attack? if you're slick then changing to slash wouldnt take a second, but i dont know, was just an idea. If you did the other method of blinking ppl have said (the fire once gives you 4-5 seconds invisible) then having it de-blink on slash rather than still on blink would be handy to attack with, but may annoy ppl who want to hit blink again to go further.

anyway, thats probably mostly giberish, sorry, hopefully u can see what i was trying to say.

    edit-
the first bit about the how cloaked is pointless, ignore it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
(cloaked as it is is very cloaked, if did notice the cloaked fade, you'd maybe glimse something out of corner of eye but not be able to see/track it very well - making the whole thing even more atmospheric)

Ok just so ya know, blink doesnt go thru walls, heres the deal. you switch to blink and hold down +attack, while it's held down you are cloaked, and you move REALY fast, while your energy drains at a decent pace, you can get around 5-10 seconds of blink without addren and as much as 10-15 with addren.
