I just realized...

Though most of u probably know this
I just realized where I reconized the HMG from the screen shots. It was modeled after/influenced by the OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon)

Er... anyhow. This weapon will be used by the US military sometime in the next few years and from what I have been told and saw, it's a very nasty pice of weaponary (the actuall damage it can cause). Five times more lethal than the M16/M203, at more than twice the range. Plus the 5.56mm assault rifle can be detached and used sepratly.

Heehee it's only natural that it should be included in NS (pun not intended).

.. you know NS takes place in the near future... not too futuristic. I guess the american army saw the HMG and decided the future should look like NS (no wars, just the earth against the aliens) so they decided to make the future guns just the same as the HMG...

Yes. The old HMG is soon going the way of the dodo, dinosaur, and Msr. Evil's bachelorhood.

A new design (created after an intense IRC session with the military minded Msr. Evil) will appear very, very soon . . . .

Though the OICW-ish HMG does look bad@ss as is.

Oh well... I know the new HMG will kick @ss.

OICW is in Ghost Recon, it's the best weapon in the game in my oppinion (though the silenced MP5/N does come close)

And, I'm awaiting that new HMG design...

The OICW is still, in the real world, as far as I have read (all things are subject to change!)that it's still more or less in a testing stage. It costs a large amount of money to manufacture due to everything it includes, a spiffy little computer to start it off. It'll be used in the mainstream military by 2006 or something like that, the near future, but it won't be a standar issue thing, it'll be like the BAR of WWII, only a handful of people have them, one per company or somethign like that probably.

Yea, but the equivlent of a M16A2 with all upgrades/features that the OICW has built in costs a LOT more than a OICW.

I do realize that not everyone will be given an OICW when it goes out of its testing/development phaze.

Meh... in SoF2 I can't stand the OICW. It's only good as a sniping weapon. The fact that you have to toggle the weapon selector to use the 20mm grenades bugs me. I prefer the M4, where the 40mm grenade is just a panicked right mouse click away.

Personally, I don't know how much I like the idea of my gun running out of batteries on the field...

It's not much different than running out of ammo on the field, except that the chances that one of your comrades will have a few coppertops spare is not likely.

The batteries can last for quite a long time. I read you're more likely to run out of ammo before the OICW batteries die.

Anyhow to keep this on the topic of NS... Ummm will the take batteries to operate?

Yea yea the answer is obvious but I dont want my thread moved!

I think I'm gonna throw up... really... I'm never eating a bowl of Banana Nut KrunCh and drinking 2 bottles of gatoraide at 4:30 in the morning ever again.

    Oh, another NS save.

I cant wait for the new non-OICW-ish HMG pics to make me drool. I hope it's a belt fed model. Just a big bad@ss friggin' gun. Hell I'd even appriciate a modified FMAS looking HMG like the one seen in Star Ship Poopers.

Or a stripped down MG42 with crap attached to it. Though I guess thats exactly what was done in Aliens, so that's almost too unorigional.

Man, I coulda told you that. You deserve to vomit. ;P

Hm... they could always go with a Vulcan cannon-type thing... Make it so you would need to crouch for it to be accurate at all...

Does anyone know how much "better" the HMG is compared to the LMG? (*cough*playtesters*cough*) I've fallen in love with the LMG already (and fell off my chair when I saw the video clip of it), but I'm a little worried about having to "upgrade" in order to stay alive.

Sorry if it's been answered before, please don't tear my skin off in a painful fashion

As for the looks of an HMG, well, if you want to get technical and stay true to the term "HMG", it ought to be a stationary, high-caliber, most probably belt-fed, bad-### sonofagun. But anyway..

Anyone played Red Faction? Long enough to grab the HMG there? I thought that was pretty cool.. With a few modifications, such as a pistol grip, an M249-esque box magazine and making it a little slimmer; it would be pretty good-lookin' IMHO. Or perhaps even better, something ala the Stoner LMG. Essentially a souped-ip M4 with a box magazine and vertical fore-grip. Beef it up even more (it's a Heavy Machine Gun, after all..) and give it a futuristic work-over.. Et voila.

    Or a Vulcan-cannon - why not? The M134 is bad-### too.

Thats exactly what I was thinking the new HMG would look like. I dunno there was something about that double barreled HMG that caught my eye. Unless you mean the stationary MG turrets that use the ripped sound sample from Saving Private Ryan. :|

I dunno 'bout all that. I was thinking a three barrel design like the rocket launcher in Unreal Tournament 2 -which, BTW, kicks ### (but the beta still crashes a LOT)- and instead of the barels rotating around, you'd have them recoil in sequence, like heavy artillery (thudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthudthud) and if it were to do this REALLY ridiculously quickly... it just look BADASS.

See, the reason I use things like ;P is because I use too many emoticons as it is. SO, I had to condense and into one, otherwise I would easily go over the limit.

I tried making that face, and my jaw made a snapping noise. Ow...
