Great first effort!! lookin at it, i'd say you could improve on - the poles - they look very round = high poly, cut down if you can..

the knobs coming thru the tube bits on the leg/support peices should end round, not flat...

  • Visual_MirageVisual_Mirage Join Date: 2003-05-01 Member: 15973Members
Hehe! would've only been 3 replies in a row, but i put in the wrong source for the image, haha, sorry. and for the poly count, it's at 708 right now, is that a good thing? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

is it all one object or are those bits stuck on? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • Visual_MirageVisual_Mirage Join Date: 2003-05-01 Member: 15973Members
    Haha, it's not all one object <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> , done each section bit by bit..............is it possible to make that out of one piece? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • JimJim Join Date: 2002-11-26 Member: 9989Members
oh no dont worry about it, if you were to it would inflate the polys a lot <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

it looks great, and doesn't exceed the original buildings pc by too much <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

well if people woulda looked at the flatshaded version a little more carefully....it doesnt look to friggin poly intensive to begin with...and once again why did everyone complain about polys before anything else?

nice model dude..hopefully this stuff will work out...i prolly wont use protoss as my marines tho..takes too long to learn new building models

if the model has no bottom i would optimize it that way bringing it down to 256 polygons.
(the blue leg rings are a side view purple lines showing its projection - green line = mirror line)

If you skinmesh and compile it into a model i'll give skinning it a try.
  • JamilJamil Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4829Members
I would count about 600-700 in the flat shaded version. It's a really nice try, Mirage. But give it another go and fix up the rings. Having the two meshes overlap like that gives off a bad effect. Just make the rings as little bumps on the legs, all one piece.

And I would suggest you give a little more detail to the main base. Make it rounder, and give it some flavour.

I dont understand that sorry? heh, i'm new to the modelling world
Ummm, i think most people want it to be a phase or an IP, so, it's up to you guys i guess.
And SilentMurder, i'd be happy for you to skin it if you'd like! that'd be great, thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You should design your mesh so it's all one piece, except for the parts that will animate independent of the other parts. What you have right now is a bunch of pieces placed ontop of each other that causes some ugly blending. Refer to picture.
