They are normally very large indeed. Pushing the boundaries of the HL engine. About 4 times the size of de_dust I would say, but don't quote me on that. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
id really like a map 2X the size of de_dust on ns (but think of ns_dust <!--emo&:0--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'><!--endemo--> )

Also, about the map sizes, they are quite large compared to other maps out there, the only ones that I think come close are 1) ex_hardline and 2) dod_heatue (or however you spell it) and even then, NS has em beat!

We are experimenting with smaller maps as well. The release will have a diversity of map sizes, from much larger then your average CS map for those big games, to something closer to CS size for smaller games.
In general, smaller maps are faster and more intense, but it does change the gameplay considerably, and large maps are definitely to play as well, especially with 20+ players.

Gwahir, I am pretty sure they are placeholder and will get a more alien feel/style once they get around to that. *complains there is no shots of all the marines blowing up from all his divie wind...wait, Flayra was always commanding when that happened <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> *
wow, I didn't think any mod would make maps as big as the ones in DoD. Although dod_dog1 not only took up the entire WC grid, but used a trick to go beyond it. Anyway, the screenies are positively orgasmic.
hmmm, but dod_dog1 didnt use all the vertical space on the WC grid =D and you couldnt walk on the land outside the WC grid, it was just a func_train set to go there after the map started.

eh.. maybe i missed something.. at readyroom, they had some picks of bobs hands... being used as a weapon.. is this aside from his bite, or was that overwritten with the bite for his primary attack.. ??
Hmm, that <i>is</i> a bit confusing. When you see the level1's claws out, that means he's using his leaping attack. His teeth pull out of view, and his claws become more visible, then start faliling about when you jump.
sounds good to me!! cant wait to plug a few rounds into one of em there bobs. <!--emo&:asrifle:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':asrifle:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo-->
I have a question.... at one point, I believe I saw a number of screenshots of the commander view, only they didn't have that metal paneling "Starcraft"-style look to them. Instead, it was all a sky blue, translucent thing going on.
Is this going to be the final 'look and feel' of the commander UI, or was that bluish one to be the final version (or perhaps just playing around with style options)?
UPDATE: Nevermind, I found one of the shots and it was the PLAYER view that looks like that. However, will the commander view end up having the same style, or remain its current "Starcraft" style? Personally, I like both equally.
Those pics are best what i have seen. Cant wait to hunt some <!--emo&:asrifle:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':asrifle:'><!--endemo--> with <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo-->
The "starcraft" style that you saw is the final commander view UI.
The semi transparent blueish one is the final player mode UI.
The concept behind it is that the Commander Console interface is more of a hands on functional control system that is part of the machine the commander is in, whereas the marines see the data displayed via their visors, hence the transparent digital looking display. That make sense?
To be perfectly honest, I never remember the Hera as seen in screenie 3. And nades with 100 clips. That was Alpha only though, obviously. Finally, the infamous "nukes".

/me thinks the metal one looks cheesy
/me hopes there are some transitions between buttons
/me hopes for noob tooltip support
/me hopes for a diagram showing where in the menus you are (kind of like a file tree)

Interesting to see how much Ns has changed and, aha, evolved, since then.
