I just remember this one time on nancy, we literally couldn't get out of the base all game. Either the marines couldn't shoot or the aliens were just really good. We never left our main. The whole team could go out and we would just die. This continued on until they got onos and we all died. This was when I could not aim as a marine, so at the time, I really couldn't help.

Is it just me or does marine team IQ rise and fall according to what map they are playing? I don't mean map balance, but there are some maps (like hera) that cause marines to forget all they knew about aiming or basic strategy, etc.

You have full upgrades, 4 Grenade launchers, Tons of Welders and HMG, half Team is HA, your eclipse hive is under attack and almost nobody is there.
    You enter in console:
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "phase tp EC"
    "ec"
    "ec"
For ten minutes while nobody defends this **** all the time, then 2 ppl phase with fades already taking out the Phasegate.

    -

You just lost 3 Restowers in 5 Minutes because noone defended, you tell your team that.
Your last hope is a secret outpost (there is always a rusher somewere then) and because you are almost full upgraded its the only choice apart from wasteing Res in HA into a team of rambos.
You tell your team to defend that outpost or you lost, you put all into that outpost a marine can dream of but there are always at least 4 people not giving a **** in any defense that make you loose everything.

    -

Your whole team dies in mess hall about 5 times because they dont act as one group.
When you need a siege to move out to mess hall you already lost as marine - You know that, you tell your team that GL or JP are way better to move out on this map.
Your Team laughts at you and builds a siege to move out to Mess Hall.
Your comm is pinging Mess hall, but its absolutely empty.
The 100 Res invested in the Siege farm dies quickly by a few fades.

HMG's are the bane of commanding:

Nooblet with LMG: "I better be fairly careful, this crappy gun can't kill ****, noob comm tbh"

Nooblet after HMG: "<i>OMGz?!</i> LOL I GOT THE BIG GON! BRB GONNA GO KILL IRAQ"

That reminds me of the good old days (November) where most marines couldn't shoot for crap and everyone was a newbie. My friends and I would set up the most elaborate ambushes just outside the base (cause bases always had turrets). Nancy was especailly great for doing this and we played countless games on Nancy where the marines never made out out of the big square room just down the ramp from the cockpit. We also used to go 30:5 or so without carapace on a regular basis. Now marines are generally so much better and I haven't seen that happen in a long time.

Actually, I would have to agree. If nobody wanted to listen, then called me a **** **** noob comm, I would sell everything too. I think only an extremely small handful of people have read the manual. It plainly states MARINES DO NOT ASK FOR WEAPONS! You simply do what your told and you will like it. If you lose, it's the commanders fault, and then vote to eject him next round if he tries to get in again. Nobody likes to comm because of all the **** clans that think there is a magical formula to winning. "Ok, their hive is here...Hmm...carry the 6...yes...yes...we must relocate over to here." It's just lame...if you wanted a game to be that predictable, just play against bots and spare the rest of us the mutiny and bitching. The whole point of playing on-line is to be able to use varying strategy. Why else would people be so much more fun to kill than bots? People can think for themselves, HOWEVER! marines do what they're told without bitching, no matter how stupid it may seem. Maybe the commander has a new idea he is going to try...Go for it..it might lead to your demise, but how else can you learn? But of course i KNOW!!! all you good commanders out there just hopped right into the comm chair and immediately started kicking ****. (mass sarcasm there) I'm just saying, I run a dedicated server myself, and I perm ban each and every single marine rambo wannabe. If you want to win, just work as a team, and let the commander do his job. Also, I have also found that it increases teamwork by 900% if you talk to people directly and compliment on teamwork nice defensive work. "Good job Mr. (Insert random name with random homo clan tag)" "THanks, what are my orders?" however, it's usually like this...."WHy can the rest of you newb llama's kill like him?" "Ok (says a different random dude with random homo clan tag, as he runs off to try to prove his stupid cs Skills as if this game were also a deathmatch)" Just give it a solid try..you'll see <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I always love puppy watching my marines and slowing moving the way points forward till they get where they are going. Nothing is more fun then me telling the marines...ok go here, or I need 3 marines here the rest of you head here. I have a couple people type and hit vioce comm with...I don't know how to get there, give me a waypoint...Etc. Me...I don't have time to tell you how to get there, follow your teammates. I'm lost Waypoint me? Ok....where are you. At spawn...why didn't you just follow someone around and learn the map?

Ah, always a fun one. click click click...ok now your there build this...chomp chomp chomp...ah bloody hell.

The best is when I will repediatly tell my marines...ok I need 3 over here...anyone not doing something head there. 10 minutes later. Comm they took that spot...ah yes I see no one listened to my orders...and since not ONE of you went there the aliens now control it. Well done team.

Well, the best for me was on ns_nothing. On the first round of the map, me and some people did a succesful relocation to cargo and won shortly thereafter. I decide to go alien the next round, and tell our team to camp cargo. We do so, and manage to destroy their efforts at relocating and took their base down quickly...

Anyway, along comes the next round, I'm alien again, and once again the marines try to relocate and get smashed again. This goes on for several more rounds, until the map finally changed.

This was on one of the user made maps (don't remember its name) and there was a big pit near the marine spawn, and sure enuf i send them out as a team and all of them fall one after another to there deaths.

-They jack around in the spawn saying "Cn I ave n HMG n JP plz!" Even when I tell them the armory isn't upgraded and we don't even have a proto lab!

-They goto a completely different location than where I tell them to, their excuse being "It's too far!" or "There's a skulk there!" or "I'm not going to their hive without an HMG and a JP!"

-They won't build things and instead just jump around knifing each other on and off for endless amounts of time.

While I never com, (unless we have nobody comming, and all that res is screaming to be used for level 3 weapons), I try to make the situation a bit more entertaining for the com.

    <i>Cemented Duck: Com, when I get a +6 katana?

    Com: No.

Cemented Duck: How about a phaser?

Com: lol, no; this isn't Star Trek</i>

    If I can register a smile; I've done my job. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

But then again, I'm making the commander lose his/her focus...

<i>Com: OMG!!!! N00B/DOUBLE AGENT!!! YOU MADE ME LOSE MY CONCENTRATI0N!!!

    /builds turret on me</i>

haha I remember comming the other day on tanith.......in a 4on4 (early am)

was a slaughter..........drop the IP armory, and arms lab.....marines die while humpin the armory.........I lose the arms lab (damn thats expensive) and IP down to half

try to get them to take RR.......marines die while all hump-building reses (aka facing walls and building)

try to get my marines anywhere.....2 would die to 1 skulk above them........people don't look up anymore

tried to relocate to RR as a last ditch effort..........they didnt make the CC after I told em and WPed them 3000000000000 times

    *sigh*

Finally next game I decided not to com, and 1 other guy also came ot the server.....so we had 2 people who could shoot and we won that game <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Okay that last post was a bit harsh but I'm the sort of comm that uses the mic all the time to co-ordinate my marines, if I want them to do something I will always ask them by name and once MT is up I always alert them to approching enemies especially if they are slicing down an alien RT or building something.

Sadly though if your stuck with a team that don't speak a word of English it can become a bit infuriating to say the least especially if they are having loud coversations with their mates in spanish over the mic.

I've had that several times, and the annoying this is that i +only+ play on UK servers. Be it for pings, or mainly the fact that with a dodgy mic, it's impossible to understand you americans (sorry, heh). So i sit back in the familiarity of UK servers with fellow brits. And then we get invaded with a load of foreign language (can't remember which) speaking clanners (MeMoLa or something) and suddenly 4-5 members of the marine team speak some other language. Safe to say that teamplay on a half foreign, half english speaking marine team doesn't quite work as well as planned. Yes, we lost. A lot. In the face.

I've nothing whatsoever against foreigners, it's just a tad annoying playing on uk servers, and not being able to understand your own team whatsoever >_<.

I think the best way the marines have failed me is on the map with sewer, vent and gen, the entire team stared at the vent in spawn for one chuckling skulk. I had one regular following my orders, so I seized one rt, ordered him to hold it as best he could, then teched up jp/hmg. Dropped us both the jp/hmg set and flew off to die. Suddenly the marine team wakes up to cry out COMM, drop me a JP/HMG NOW!! even though I wasn't in the chair. I think we ended up with a tf and some other stuff in base while I was out hive shooting.

the last game i had was on tanith. Everything was going fine...we reloacted to RR, took over fusion and sat comm, no prob.

SoBe.Dragon on voice comm - Someone needs to build the back up turrett factory in sat comm
5 minutes later - Yo, someone needs to phase over to sat comm and build the backup turret factory
5 minutes later - wth guys, someone needs to go build that back up turret factory in sat comm
5 minutes later - back up TF in sat comm is still not built

15 minutes after my last request for someone to build that back up TF, i look over at sat comm to see the last 2 bars of my PG die and all of my turrets are down...and the back up TF....just sitting there. I went OFF on voice comm...i was **** at the whole team for no one building that back up TF like i ordered 20 minutes before the aliens attacked it.

Anyhoo, i got HA and HMGs and we went over to waste handling and took that hive back over. When things started to look good again, the server died. gg

I'm 99,9999% sure that this happened in a server called "Plan 9 from Outer Space". Let me explain you what happens in this server:

Two SPANISH NS clans wanted to have a server (basically for spanish people, but everybody's welcome..), but the hosting services in Spain are a holy SH**!, so they had to buy a Jolt's server (UK) (they gives good ping), so, however in the ASE you see an UK flag, and it seems a normal english server, it's a BILINGUAL (spanish and english) server (however usually there are more spanish-speakers (around the 85-90% of the people who join this server) than english speakers.

It wasn't plan 9, i'm positive, i avoid that server purely based on the fact that you never know if you're going to get a team i can understand or not. I think it was either Dumb*ss Brits! or YO Clan's, both english clan servers.

I wouldn't even mention the language problem if it were plan 9 or a spanish server and so on, but it was the fact it was an english speaking server for an english clan.

The last time I commed, which is a long time ago since I lost my faith in the average NS player, it was on nancy. I remember this game clearly, because we had a good phase rush going. I waypointed everyone except one person to head to port engine, and left the one person to guard base. The person guarding ran out towards mother hive, and then got himself killed. The rest of the marines did their very BEST to avoid going to port engine, and instead went to either subspace or mother interface. Despite being close together, they died too. We lost that game because no one would go to port engine, and eventually they ejected me :\
