What should be considered for MOTDs
Too often in the forums now I find people complaining about being kicked as the server op has opted to use reserved slots which kick current players so reservists can get on.
I feel perhaps server admins should make more clear in their MOTD that users have no rights or expectations of such or privacy on their server. Many users feel "Because I play here I have right to say how things work". In my experience putting the following in your MOTD can often explain away these myths.
"Welcome to <Insert Name Here> "
"Access to this server is a PRIVILAGE *not* a right, you have no expectations of privacy, sanctity or playing ability here. You have NO input into the operations of this server. This server is using a reserved slot system that kicks players from this server if a player with a reserved slot should try to join, be FOREWARNED. You have no expectation of playing time here, Administators/Server-Ops guarantee you will NOT be harassed or bullied here, however; you should have no dillusion that you are GUARANTEED time playing on this server. You have been WARNED"

Welcome to Vadakill's NS!
The Bill of Rights:
o You have the right to fair play. (Even teams)
o You have the right to camp as long as it's not holding up the game.
o You may enjoy an appropriate playing environment. (Language, visual, etc.)
o You don't need to put up with verbal assault either directly or
by culture, religion, or race.
DO NOT VIOLATE ANYONE'S RIGHTS!
*** If you are stuck you can say/teamsay "/stuck" to be unstuck.
*** DO NOT SPECTATE! Play or log off, you have been forewarned! -Vada
*** To use audiable Motion Tracking bind a key to "audiotracking_toggle"
or use your flashlight key to activate.
*** To record voicecomm, record a demo.
*** For you new guys, multiple Gorges slow resource flow; one is optimal.

Bit harsh, no? I hope that this isn't a trend. It's integral to the mod, after all. Before anyone freaks out about this, I do understand that you want to keep as many slots as possible open for active players.
2). I prefer to kick manually by looking at the player list in ASE and finding a player that just joined recently. A newly joined player won't be the commander, won't be a gorge saving up resources for a new hive, and probably won't be an important member of the team yet.
I know that I have been in a game recently where the comm was kicked because of reserved slots. Are the current auto-kick scripts for reserved slots smart enough to take those factors into account?

Yeah, relic, I guess it is harsh. I run only a 12 player server so slots are hard to come by. What I had happening was 3-4 people would spectate or idle in spectate leaving teams extremely small. If it was possible, I'd prefer to have spectator mode passworded so that only admins could spectate to catch cheaters, I do not like players idling in spectator mode eating lunch. If players want to spectate then they can go to a server with HLTV. I think the majority of people who join a server want to play, that should not be denied by someone just watching.

One better would be not to show the specatating admin on the scoreboard .

Rules of the server are as follows:
1. No using cheats/exploits or glitches.
2. Respect all players and admins. Jackasses not wanted.
3. Be a responsible commander/gorge.
4. Do not go commander/gorge if you are NEW!
5. Do not spam chat channels, including the voice chat.
6. Do not sit idle in the readyroom.
7. Explicit and horrible language is not tolerated.
8. Above all, have fun!
Notice:
Cheating Death has been removed. If you are accused of cheating
you have exactly two days to email spiffyjr@team-ai.com a demo
of your play. Failure and or refusal to do so will result in a ban.
The demo MUST come with a screenshot of the date and time it was
recorded as well as a screenshot of the 'status' of players in the
server. This is to insure the demo wasn't made post-accusation.
News:
Blah blah blah, news here.

And here she is:
locked_spectate
I don't have a windows build environment with me at the moment, so only a linux object is built. Source included.
*edit* predatory_kangaroo compiled a windows version, which is now included in the above zipfile. Thanks predatory_kangaroo!

On our server the motd tells the players that if the server is full and a clan-member wants to connect the player that has been on the server for the shortest time will get kicken... i think this is fair enough.
On the other side the Server is a 19-Slot (18 playable one for reservation) and has quite good pings (Germany)... but because it has to have a password set at all time there are rarely any players on it.
The passwort ("public") is even stated in the Server's name, but most pll sort out passworded servers right from the start.
Hmm, went a bit offtopic... short: A short notice that players may be kicked because of reserved slots should be enough.
I got it covered...
Anyone needs a proggy built in windows, gimme a PM, i've got plenty of idle time on my build PC
Here ya all go then
