    As for that big... uhhh, thing attached to that artillery piece, my guess would be maybe testing the ballistics of the tank... i have no other guess

    It's not a tank, silly. It's an M-109 "Paladin" Self-Propelled Artillery piece.

    The SA80 did have some bad press. It did jam in Desert conditions. But with good reason.

    They weren't cleaning it properly. They were using old methords that didn't clean the SA80 completely. When cleaned properly the SA80 can still work even when it has been submerged in sand.

    Now back to the topic. This is one hell of a helicopter

    IIRC the recommendation was that the SA80 was cleaned every half-hour. Who can do that in combat?

    Oh, and the intakes in the first pic don't look right, not angled enough, which is what probably threw me. (its an artists impression, not a photo - isnt it? or at least a very edited photo.)

    /edit, and it doesn't look like the wing has a variable angle of attack, so I'm blaming the picture, not my eyes.

    Looks like an M4 to me, seems to short.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Actually it IS an m16 rifle!!

    M16 M203.... Notice the huge difference in length between the rifle barrel and the m203 launcher and the ventilated pattern of the heat guard where the foregrip of a normal M16 rifle normally is.
    <img src='http://matrix.dumpshock.com/raygun/firearms/grenade/img/m203.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    M4 M203... Now notice the rifle barrel and M203 are nearly the same length. The M4 doesnt have the ventilated heat guard replacement for the foregrip either..... yet!
    <img src='http://www.37mm.com/lotw/images/M4gery_RAS_37mm.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Now compare that to the first pic and you will see what rifle it is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Do you have a problem with that? Gripen is one of the best airplanes in the world, and Im not saying this because Im from Sweden.
  • tbZBeAsttbZBeAst Join Date: 2003-01-26 Member: 12755Members
    Indeed the Gripen and Falken are very respected aircraft, Saab built (I think at least one of the powerplants was Volvo?) they're both aerodynamically very advanced, in a delta canard configuration - most fighters use this now, it allows great turning performance, no matter what speed. South Africa have just ordered a load to replace the "domestically developed" (read Israelli updated) Mirage derivative called the Cheetah. Respect the Gripen.
