Can We Get A Pic Of The Model Rotation In Action?

<div class="IPBDescription">That would make my day</div> Of the graphical updates in the patch I think this has to be the coolest one. Can we please get a quick shot of it in action? Im sure you can find a shot that doesn't give away any of the other changes by simply cropping out the hud or something. If not thats cool but I think everyone here wants to see it.

    well if looking down is gonna position your model like the first pic shows its gonna make hiding above small ledges very hard because you wont be able to look down without sticking out.

    I don't follow. Your model doesn't rotate if you're only looking, it only rotates if you're actually on that incline. You can stand on the ledge and look over it without any effect on orientation.

    so then when your a skulk on a wall your model will always be facing forward (it only rotates around and not up and down)?
    so what your saying is that first picture is inaccurate because the model is looking down, which it will never do?

    Madjaj means that if you're clinging to a wall on the other side of a doorway (say, in ns_nancy outside the mess hall on the subspace array side), if you're too close to the edge of the wall, your claws and snout will be hanging down for everyone to see. You'd have to back up further up the wall to stay concealed as marines walk under you.

    That is what you meant, right?

    On the first picture, the skulk is on a wall, not a ceiling.

    Wait wait... Hold on... Will the aliens nose be able to point up and down? And if you climb on the wall... Will the first person view change to? That would be cool in my opinion...

    The model will rotate as in the pictures..ok?...the players view will not rotate because in betas, this made the playtesters sick, so they didnt use it. Flayra said he may put an option to turn it on and off.
  • MadjaiMadjai Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2986Members
    ok so im right then. i guess when this is implemented we'll just have to stick on ceilings instead of walls, because when youre looking down when youre on a ceiling the model will still remain upside down and no part of the skulk will stick out.

    ok ill show you what im talking about;

    here is an example, in eclipse, at station access alpha. (COPY and PASTE into your browser, or click and drag the location to your address bar)

    <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse1.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse1.jpg</a>

    in this first pic you see me looking at this ledge, where i often hide as a skulk.

    <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse2.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse2.jpg</a>

    here is what it would look like if youre a skulk, on the wall, looking down.

    <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse3.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse3.jpg</a>

    here is what it would look like if youre a skulk, on the wall, looking to the marine's right.

    <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse4.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse4.jpg</a>

    and here is what it looks like if youre a skulk, on the ceiling, and looking either to the marine's right OR down.

    i hope that helps...

    The main problem with being seen would be that the viewpoint of the skulk is deep in its body. If you are standing just behind a corner and it seems that you're completely covered, your head actually sticks out.

    yeah Geo is a Blunderbus to use, but this is how you view it:

    copy link <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse3.jpg' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002/eclipse3.jpg</a>

    paste in browser and then cut /eclipse3.jpg off the end, then press 'enter'

    when his homepage loads then paste /eclipse3.jpg on the end of <a href='http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/madpostal2002</a>

    there you go the 'Icky Hard too much wasted time way' of using Geo links <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you insist on using Geocities or some other crap webhost, take the 2 seconds needed to put your pictures on an HTML page and then link to THAT and we can all see your pictures easily.

    anyone who has played Aliens v. Predator 2 should be quite at home with changing views when wall/ceiling walking. That was about the coolest aspect of playing as an alien in that game.
