Ive never seen marines win yet.
Im a new player to NS, been playing for 4 days about 4-8 a day. I play marines every time. Ive never yet seen the marines win a single game yet.
I know im new and may suck and that it takes a good commander, but ive played in several game where the commander seemed to be good but we still got whored. The marines have to fight every inch to get a resource point,
all the while the aliens tech and get nastier. Personally I think the game has some balance issues. As many games as ive played youd think I would have seen a marine win a couple times. The only way marines might win=awesome commander and the aliens suck and dont know how to play....
This mod looks to be one of the best ive ever played, but I will revist it in a few months and hope that some balance issues have taken place....

gee..do we have a search button?
there are balance issues relating to team size, so try small servers and try large servers.
and try playing alien for a while too. if you get a feel for how the aliens work you may learn how to counteract their strategies better!

Exactly.... aliens rape....
That statistic seems to be reversed on clan servers, although that's only from hearsay; I haven't seen clan match stats. Regardless, we'll be looking into this in 1.1.

That is probably true. The only way marines can win is if they work together as a team. Most public servers lack teamwork.
Public Play = Depends on the server, usually alien/marine win, however total newbie servers are at the lower end of the marine wins.
Without removing a huge part of the game, how do you balance it? In short, you can't. Whatever you do it'll stay unbalanced with player skills.
The only thing you can do is balance it as fair as possible for clan play and hope public players adapt.
Exactly true. Makes it rather difficult for us to balance. /:
but i've found when you have a good commander and good maries the aliens get the **** handed to them badly. no contest. Early game motion tracking is a game clincher almost every time.
even with a bad team, all you have to do is protect the base and get 1 or 2 rts around your base and it's game over... before they get fades and a 2nd hive you'll have hmgs and jetpacks.
Just today i was in a game where we had 2 hives and had forced the maries to relocate to no-name. One of the obvious new marine players was begging for it to end with crys of come kill us... meanwhile the commander deployed 2 jetpackers with hmgs.... the jetted to subspace and took out the hive before we could movement in.... we got it back up but if we hadn't have gotten 3 fades before it went down that could have been game over.
You see, you just made the posters point with your last statement and another recent topic. Just need a couple fades...
Now imagine how much **** 174 res will get the marines. You could outfit probably 6 marines with jp/hmg or ha/hmg.
one hmg/ha marine vs one fade, and the ha/hmg marines wins.
That is so true
Once i was playing ns_nancy and one clan joined the game (5 clan members). They all went to marines (14 players server) and we didn't have any change against them. Our kharaa team wasn't full of noobs either. There was lots of skilled players and i had played with them before and i know what they can do and what they can't.
Map changed to ns_hera.....we tryed several games, but marines won every single time

Nah, need a couple of DECENT fades, and for all the Marines to be stupid, or too wussy to rush them and gun 'em down. It *doesn't* take much to kill a Fade. Even less if your Comm hands out a nice juicy Weapons 3 upgrade. Just so many people are afraid of being acid rocketed to death that they RUN AWAY.
Which is outright stupid.
Since you're Frontiersmen, you should be travelling in groups. Even three Marines can take out a Fade/Lerk relatively easily. Take out the Lerk first, as it has fewer HP, by either blasting it with your LMGs (three LMGs do roughly the same damage as one, even without Umbra) or charging up and knifing... knives do the same damage regardless of Umbra. They die quick, and even if you lose *gasp* one, or even TWO of your teammates, they've likely done enough damage for the one remaining to kill the Fade with a slash or two. No biggie, except the marines FLEE instead of CHARGE. You respawn, it takes about ten seconds. Wow... that's a really long time, isn't it? You spend longer than that GETTING to the battle, if there are no PGs up.
It's really a choice of 'die and save the outpost, then respawn', or 'run away, lose the outpost, and lose the game'.
Seriously, I just got out of a game where I was playing on Marines. ns_nancy. We had this game WON. Locked down Mother (nameless) Hive, and were moving on toward Port Engine. Annoyingly, one of the other marines was trying to give orders to the Comm (newbie mistake #1.. if you want to give orders, GET IN THE CC AND STAY THERE) and had us build an outpost in the middle of nowhere (crew lockers), forgetting that the siege range had been shortened in 1.04. RP that could have better gone toward securing Port, which we lost when the others on our team SAT OUTSIDE and took potshots in, instead of charging and killing 'em off. There was ONE gorge and two Skulks. Took out one Skulk, other got me, and the THREE guys sitting outside because they saw the Skulk coming at them and RAN.
It's not overpowered Aliens, or underpowered Marines. It's people who don't know how to play, and jump to that conclusion when they keep losing as Marines.
Download some clan-match demos, watch them. Study the strategy, because that's what Marines are all about.
I'm still under the firm impression that the 50-75% Marine loss on pubs is more due to the 'OMGz0Rz!!1!oneone they got Fades! Game over!' and having all the Marines F4, instead of FIGHTING. Again, wussy Marines running away. Clanmatches don't pull that crud. They don't quit. They all fight. And they win, because they didn't give up.

Hold up. You've played 16-32 hours of Natural Selection, and you haven't gone Kharaa once? Good grief, man! You haven't experienced the game yet!
If you're worried about alien tech, go fade and experience for yourself how quick they die when two or three LMGs are emptying a clip into them.
Don't you think maybe that if you played Marine more often, you might do better?
Another point. Why two or three? Shouldnt One lmg be able to do the trick?

One LMG = Free. One Fade = 54RP. YOU do the math, genius.

lol good point Talesin..
Fades ARE pretty easy to kill, but the thing is most people as soon as they see fades, they like "OMG FADES!?!" and they run.
Im usually the only guy on the TEAM who is telling them to charge. Im like "charge them" "CHARGE THEM" and everyone is being stupid and hiding. Its nigh impossible to kill fades alone, because they always go in pairs...so even if you miraculously kill one, the other is gonna get ya before you reload.
The Fades SEEM invincible when they attack the marine base, but they are usually getting shot bad, and run off to get healed..
anyone that has been a fade and run into the wrong end of a shotgun knows how powerfull them babys are...Like two or three shots from that at near close range will Frag that Fade in an instant.

how did i make his point, by showing that desipte being "locked down" in 1 hive the marines can come back even with fades running around and take out a hive? If they would have put a phase up instead of taking the hive down it would have been tough getting subspace back. because the whole team could have gone through not just 2 jetpackers flting through the vents.
for the same res as 3 fades if they would have walked in with 3 ha/hmg they would have ripped us apart. By the time fades show up marines can easily have a few hmgers and 2 firing on 1 fade is a dead fade in about 4 seconds.
it's still a simple fact that with descent marines early game motion tracking usually wins the game...
