the hive room looked pretty nice but i think the red circle is sorta out of place.
only constructive critisizm i have for u is on that "hump thing" in the middle of the room in the second to last pic. it looks just like a solid lump that doesnt do anything. If you are trying to make a vent type thing, maybe get rid of the hump and make the vent looking area of the texture depressed with steam comming out. for example:

Well yeah, the hump thing doesn't do much - it's a fusion generator, and both the red ring on the ceiling and on the floor pulsate, along with the engine throb noise. I don't think I want to animate it. But thanks anyway.
Increase the lighting?! no way man. It's getting near a hive, gotta keep the light levels moody and low.
As for that corridor for the first two shots - it's my bling bling corridor - none of the map is as good as that!

Jediyoshi - Yeah, I was concerned that I might have gone overboard with it being in a corridor and then in a hive. I don't think I could get better lighting in that corridor though. It's just how I want it.
Sirus - Thanks for saying the bg story is good. I think it's pretty basic, all I wanted to make sure was that it ties in with the techtrope article and the 'proper' fiction here on this site.
Bitmap - It's quite simple really, a func_illusionary rendered to invisible (texture, 0) which means it doesn't add to wpolies, and then smack on zhlt_lightflags 2.
Cash Car star - Good comment. I'll consider adjusting it for my next compile (but retaining these ones too, I don't want to fuxkzor it all up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ).
Lyndak - Thanks but I was hopeing to pull some strings and play test on roob's server - if I ever get finished that is.
chubbysteve has not gone overboard on the circular lighting. In actual fact, I reckon the circle lighting brings alot of ambience into the level.
Besides, a thing to look at with these circular lights is... why? No, NS isn't realistic, but regardless of theme, the purpose of primary lighting is the same - light the area. The skylight example used is something that in a way adds depth and function to the level. Yes, there's more around you, etc. etc. The circular lights come off as a "Hey, look what I can do" effect rather than something that really makes a difference to the overall immersion factor, if you ask me.

In eclipse realism is brought to a peak - everything uses the same construction materials, the same methods of lighting and panelling.
In bast every room is different, but the way it's come together doesn't make me doubt the astonishing realism of the map.
zhlt_lightflags is a key you can add to brush entities to make then have a shadow, as they don't cast shadows usually. Setting it to 2 in the value area means it will cause a shadow.
Practice in a test map, get two func_walls and two spots (one for each). set zhlt_flags 2 on one of the walls. You have to disable smart edit by clicking the smart edit button.
