Outside Map?

<div class="IPBDescription">Possible?</div> My friend and I are gonna try to make a map that is somewhat outside....heres a description...from a short story i wrote about it....
A marine exploration team "finds" aliens and trys to bring them back to New Earth...the aliens overtake the ship and crash into a planet...in the middle of a crater...(possibly a volcanoe...havent decided yet :/) ne way...a rescure team is sent out to rescue any survivors..(yeah any...lol) and destroy the alien race before they over take the natives...
the layout will consist of a crater while the aliens take refuge in "mines" the marines have a fairly large ship they build their base in?...
Does it sound like it will work and does anyone want to help....i've only made a few maps with worldcraft and they weren't very detailed...my friend makes Unreal Tournament maps alot...but hasnt used worldcraft yet....i am prolly gonna use Nems Terrain Generator for the base of it...any other suggestions ideas
Oh yeah....i need some textures....hmmm...like 2 spaceships...rocks..ground..sky....anyone?

And seeing a skulks cant walk on skies....

a volcanoe? is that a small vessel for sailing on magma? :)lol j/k
I'm working on a map that is about 1/2 outdoors now and it should fit with the NS style just fine (assuming my artistic skills are up to the standard, which they probably aren't <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ). The outdoor areas will be bounded by cliffs. They will be no larger than, say, the viaduct hive in ns_nothing. Skulks will be prevented from walking on the sky with clip brushes so that is a non-issue. Lerks and jetpackers will hit an invisible barrier if they try to fly too high but I don't see that as a problem.. no game is 100% realistic, NS included.
Wait until a top-notch mapper attempts an outdoor map before you assume it can't be done.
I was thinking about that the other day. Visibility would be a problem. When JPs/lerks fly out to the edge of the dome, they would presumably be able to see a great deal of the map. You would have to extend most of your interior walls right to the edge of the dome which would defeat the purpose somewhat.
The aliens have landed at an outpost which has suffered a asteroid strike. They are just getting started when the TSA land outside.
You could therefore have the outpost, the marine craft, and the outdoor bit in between. The twist in the tale is this; The outpost can only support 2 hives, the 3rd being in part of the marine ship.
I think this could leave the way clear for some interesting tactics. Do the marines try and get the hive location on the ship secure plus one in the outpost, or do they relocate thier base into the outpost, running the risk of getting ambushed in the open ground? Obviuosly there would need to be much debris for the aliens to hide behind.
Anyway, what do you think?
If you can create a quality outside or partially outside map that is fun to play then I would be honoured to host it.
the marines have a giant ship that will look like the picture below...granted that was made by my friend in Unreal Editor but you get the idea...
anyway...the marine base will be inside that LARGE ship and that have landed inside a crater with rock "walls" all around it....you do know what a crater is right?
anyway then the aliens will mainly stick to the cave system that will be set up much like a mine throughout the volcano.........

It might be on planet Zorgleblarg. Or perhaps there is a layer of toxic gas floating 30 feet above the surface (which could be added visually).
And I have also seen it done on NS_ Nancy. I will not go into
how they do it since it's a map no no. And Will get you kicked

You don't need to cover the sky with clip brushes, sky textures are un-wall-climbable anyway <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

*note* marines will do NO piloting in my map....(just incase some of you n00bs out there dont understand...)
ne way...i hoping it will be a fun map nonetheless....i am not gonna try extremely hard to make it EYE CANDY.....?!~
