How do I mute people again, I messed up my binds once more and don't remember how
Sadly, when I first bought Halflife platiunum pack, I was 11. So, when I started palying counter-strike, and people asked how old I was (mind you, this was before voice communication was in play, i'm 15 now), I'd answer, and they would instantly stereotype me, and then treat me like I was crap. It didn't help that I got 14 frames per second for the 3 1/2 years I played CS, either. ANYWAY, after a few weeks of playing on a decent server called Judges (which is now known as Godhead), a few of the folks forgot about my age, and just acted like I was a normal player.
When voice comm came out, everyone was excited, of course, ebcause less talking, and you get to hear how goofy the people you've known for years sound like. Well, when I talked, no one seemed to pay attention to the pitch of my voice, except the people who remembered my age. With me being a man-child and all, no one seemed to care, ebcause of my voice pitch. There were a few kids that were regulars on the server who were starting out at the same age I did (11), and boy could you tell it. They were instantley stereotyped, and treated like crap, despite the people who were harassing them were getting slaughtered by them round after round.
With voice comm, now, it's a benefit and a curse for younger players out there. They can communicate a lot easier with the team, but are instantly stereotyped by their voice. So, when some 12 year old ask for a Heavy Machine gun, and nothing else, he doesn't get it. The commander jsut drops him some mines and says "Go do something". Then some other fellow named "Ub3r 1337 Mut|-|A" spawns in after dying for the 11th time in a row without killing anything asks for the whole weapons cache, and gets it without a second that, and begins his mission to hove at the roof of viaduct, shooting at nothing, until he runs out of fuel and falls to the floor...again.
I agree that there seems to be a lack of maturity present in some of the younger gamers these days, but because of those people, a lot of the halfway decent kids out there who play are getting the negative attention that the other "bad" kids are. Most of the "bad" kids are jsut trying to be accepeted, which is expected, of course, but still, we need to set those kids in line.
So , I guess what I'm trying to say here is that we shouldn't stereotype so quickly when we hear someone who isn't as deep voiced as ourselves, and wait to see how they play. Of course, if they start asking for a welder, jetpack, and HMG 3 minutes into the game, after 5 rounds, then it's time to whip out that old mute button, which sadly, isn't present yet
Anyway, jsut keep in mind that for every 3 annoying kids there are out there playing NS, theres a halfway decent one you rprobably treating like crap and you even know it.

all the dude who started this forum was sayign was, he hates it wen 11 year olds talk to him like he is some stupid newby and whine over the mic "omg u didnt do that gimme a jetpack NOW" ect. It probably didnt help that he put the whiney voice comment in, we all know its aggravting but it left him open for flaming. I just turned 15 on feb 1. and i usually look up to older gamers. Among the great agitators of our time such as "P33 P33 B0y" and "Big D*ck mutha f-a" i always look up to #rod.Skulkbait. Usually skulkbait is somone age 18 - 25 while pee pee boy and big are ages 11 - 17. As for me (My name is James H4xwell, inside joke my real name is James Maxwell) but nwayz stop the flame, a lot of us are mature, and he was just aggravated at p33 p33 b0y wen he wrote this so let let this die shall we?
I dont think kids should be playing this game, becasue, well, im 20, Almost 21, and it gives me godamn nightmares!!! (Sometimes I sleep with the light on)

Look, nobody likes ignorant fools who don't take the time to learn the game yet act as though they know everything. Fools of this type come in all ages and Nobody likes these people. I think you clarified yourself on the second page and I think it is worthwhile to edit your first post to make it clear what you mean.
I agree, I don't like that kind of attitude either. I apologize if I was confrontational.
I think NS is the most kid friendly Mod out there if they understand the concept of teamplay. There is no ultra graphic violence, the topic matter is harmless science fantasy, and it teaches teamwork.
I would much sooner let my kid play NS then CS, DoD, or UT2003.
Actually I could care less if old people played. Grow up ZokHiZ. You people take every word I say and shove it through the "Politically Correct 2000 ®" machine and try to make me look like a jerk because you can't accept the fact that people have opinions other than your own.
For the people mad at me - I still don't like when kids play and act like they know everything about the game. I will admit I don't know everything about the game. The problem comes when they start spamming crap that I'm not doing something right, or start spamming the voice com, which I should clear up, I dont like ANYBODY which does this, regardless of age. Are you young, and have skill? Good for you, don't flame me, I enjoy playing with people that have skill. Are you a teen with a pre-pubescent voice with skill? Good for you, I like people with skill. Are you a senior citizen with a busted hip, bifoculs, and a voice box from 40 years of smoking that has skill? Good for you, I like people with skill. People stop putting words in my mouth. You know what I mean. People, regardless of age, spam voice, and act like know-it-alls when they know nothing. It is a proven fact that kids, that is, usually around age ten and down, will act like this more than anyone in any other age group. Now if you guys reading this post want to continue flaming me for having my own opinion, and continue reading in between the lines of what I'm saying to make me look like some sort of jacka**, I suggest looking for somebody else to flame, because I don't care what you think of me.
so u are telling that no n00bs should play ns..no skill no ns...if u say that someone cant play well..no ns...say that u did the tf in wrong place..no ns
I'm saying that you need to recognize that you are a n00b, and instead of trying to lead the game, stop talking, and listen to the people who know what their doing. Take a pointer from them. Why learn to play a game from other n00bs? I don't know about anyone else, but I personally would choose learning from an experienced player rather than a n00b.
And as I said in the above post, STOP TALKING EVERY WORD I SAY AND MAKING IT SOME SORT OF HUGE POLITICALLY CORRECT BS
ok ok..no i get it..in that point u are 100 % right otto..sorry to miss judge u..of course n00bs should try to learn to play...they should listen better players and so on.

But anywho, clarify yourself and I don't think you'll get flamed anymore...
I'm all for equality among players and letting them prove their own maturity level and whatnot, EXCEPT if you plan on commanding. Its got to be someone I respect, which usually entails a combination of killing me a lot and sounding charismatic over voicecomm.
This kind of thig really makes me mad- im only 13, and i turly do try to be a team player and play the game the way it was meant to be played. However, every time i comm, every time i try to to tell my team "Hey, there heading for power silo, better get over there" im igonered becuse my voice is high pitched. Everyoone always says "Im not gonna be told what to do by a 13 year old!!!" And ive lost many tinems due to this. Not all little kids are bad, ive been playing Half-LOife since i was 8 and have always strived to do the best for my team and make it a fun experience no matter waht mod ive played. I cant help my age. Dont judge people by there age in thigs like this, becuse i have seen many 20 year olds who cant play at all. Maybe you should try to give us a little respcet every once in awhile and not be so quick to jusge just becuse someones boice is high pitched. Now if they ruin the game for others then i can see, but if the player does what is right, dont bash him/her due to age. People like that dont deserve to call themselves team players.

I think what tends to disturb me the most is having teammates who really *DO* sound like a cartoony voice over voice-com. Individual maturity can vary astonishingly over the age groups, although trends still exist....
And oh yes, NS would definetly not be rated NC-17 (or the equivalent video game rating, 18+). It has no blood except alien and gibs are gone. It would be teen.

Ugh... I shouldn't have read this entire thread... Now I feel old, and I'm only 22...
But anyway, I think I'll contribute...
I don't really care about age that much... I admit, I tend to make assumptions when I hear a little kiddie on the mic, but I think the really important factor is intelligence. I'd rather have, as a teammate, a six-year-old with a little common sense than a thirty-year-old who is just going to hide behind the CC until he gets some armor and an HMG... Get my drift?
Unfortunately, most of the time I hear one of those high-pitched voices on the mic, it's saying something like "commander, i need a jetpack!", ten seconds after the round begins... Sad, but true...

QUOTE

Weve all heard it on the news. Obviously hasn't heard of all those cybercafe killings.
I'm 14 years old, I've been gaming since I was 11. The SECOND anyone says I shouldn't be playing games since I'm young and I sound like a little girl over the mic, I will track them down and bludgeon them with their own computer monitor. That's all I have to say. Ever since I was 9, I've been more mature than many 30-year olds.

Not because of violence, that was the purpose of the first part of this message if youve been reading it, but because they annoy the friggin crap out of me. Too many times I've commanded a game (or had the kid as a commander) where this person who hasnt hit puberty yet is talking to me as if I don't know how to play the game. "Noooo don't research that!" "Drop some turrets! That will stop the skulk rush." Frankly I think parents need to moniter their children, or at least be conscious of the average age of the pool of players in what game their playing. NS would probably have a NC17 or Mature rating if it were for sale, common sense tells you the playerbase will consist of more mature people, and the last thing they want to hear while blowing away aliens or chomping on marine legs is some whiney snot nosed brat that think they know everything, telling everybody what to do, running their mouth over the mic in the game.

Obviously hasn't heard of all those cybercafe killings.
ok then here is your original post tell us what not to read

Video games and violence in them cause kids to go psycho. Er... yea... right... We all know this isnt true, unless the game is everquest . Children should not play NS. Why?

For those that don't quite understand what I'm saying and are too lazy to read through the posts, this is a clarification from another post
I still don't like when kids play and act like they know everything about the game. People, regardless of age, spam voice, and act like know-it-alls when they know nothing. It is a proven fact that kids, that is, usually around age ten and down, will act like this more than anyone in any other age group.
And another clarification
I'm saying that you need to recognize that you are a n00b, and instead of trying to lead the game, stop talking, and listen to the people who know what their doing. Take a pointer from them. Why learn to play a game from other n00bs? I don't know about anyone else, but I personally would choose learning from an experienced player rather than a n00b.

As for swearing, it's the 14 year old kids who swear the most.
