I sold my boomslang after using the Logitech Dual Optical for awhile. Didn't notice any loss in precision or accuracy (other opticals would skip, stutter, burp...), and not having to clean my mouse every fortnight was a deity-send. I do miss the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment though. Plus, a few months before I sold it, Razer reported that they had stopped manufacture and support due to financial problems. However, they have found a new investor, and the Boomslang is back in limited production <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You've never actually used a Optical mouse before, have you?

I got a Logitech Dual Optical and it greatly improved my aim. Best mouse I've ever used.

Anyway, for the topic at hand, I have only seen this happen once before, and it was completely by accident.

Yeah, Flayra kinda ficked up on this one. Being able to build anywhere near res points is just asking for trouble.

From what I hear, people with optical mice aren't having that problem anymore. I still do but I have the most basic of all optical mice: the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Only when I try to streak my mouse super fast does it do that though, I've never had that problem in games because I never have to move my mouse that far and that fast. I *really* have to move it far and fast to get the seizure effect.

One way to be lame is to go gorge at the begining of the round and hide, the entire match. The Aliens will lose guarunteed.

There should be some kind of script that automaticly kills a gorge who idles for more then 3 minutes.

I think I have seen an optical mouse from the 1980's. It had a special metal mousepad, and it wouldn't work if you took it off of it. It also had a strong laser and a warning label against shining it in your eye. It was really cool, but I was like eight.

"There should be some kind of script that automaticly kills a gorge who idles for more then 3 minutes. "
[I can see a gorge just about to build a hive and then being slayed by that plugin...]

Hmmm, think about the microwave-ovens... Who is to blame if old gran'ma puts in her tiny dog "for drying"? Old Granny or the manufacturing company for building it with an opening that let granny's dog pass?

    Think about....

And now tell me why all manuals in US must have those hints for not using things for stupid stuff - anyone with an IQ bigger than a pancake or calling himself adult would never ever even get those ideas in first place (IMHO)... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

"This VCR-cable can't be used for towing cars!"
"Our coffe is hot! Well it was, now we have to serve it with a temperature not even warm enough to distinguish it from room-temperatured cola - so you can't sue us any more for burned lips, tongues or whatsoever..."

On the res-building - it can happen by mistake, and that IS bad concerning simple terms of game design. (It's one of bigger issues, as intended abuse can/does ruin games.)
But this by no way degrades this great mod in general - Personally I still see it in a "beta" stage, and there are lots of details to be fixed/added, even if it is already "playable by masses" and am quite curious to what it will evolve!

There is only ONE advantage with wheely mouses over optical mouses(I dont have one <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->), you can go into SUPER SPIN EXTRA FUN MODE!!!!! Howto:
Enter any server. Remove ball from mouse, and place your primary non-thumb finger over the left-right wheel. Place it so the tip of your finger has a grip on the top of the wheel. Then pull out your finger in such a way that the wheel spins! If it would have been possible in HL, the resulting spin would have caused a tornado.
Anyone who has a wheel mouse, try that, its actually fun spinning like that! Especially when someone else is looking at you, since they then go "WTF LOL what the HELL are you doing??? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->"

I've been through several optical mice with no problems whatsoever, and the symptoms you're complaing about to the best of my knowledge only occur on very old optical mice, or when using optical mice with unsuitable surfaces.

I tried an optical mice a few years ago and hated it. It was difficult for it to do anything right, even on a pristine surface. Well, I just bought a Logitech MX300 and I love it. It's extremely accurate, even on my beat-up old desk. I'm not sure about any other optical mice, though.

You must be a n00b, I use a MS Optical mouse, perfectly steady, that's the idea! Or maybe your just seeing someone with shaky hands play, maybe some 70 year old man...

Yeah, i wish on future releases (1.x and so on) there would be somekind of recycle option for non-built buildings. if you accidentaly build something, you could recycle/destroy the building and you would get 50% rp's back. This has happened to me. cl_flushentity ; error happened..and i had just chosen something from the menu and it turned out to be OC instead of RC. !!!! i was soooo frustrated...

But only non-built structures could be recycled, so nobody could abuse this.

The new logitech MX line of optical mice are said to be more accurate than most "normal" mice, haven't tried them myself though. I currently have a logitech iFeel optical mice, doesn't have any "serious" problems.

I prefer logitech over MS mice.

Im actually against the blocking of anything but resource towers around the nozzel. Bear with me for a second before you flame. One of my favorite tricks as a gorge is to plop down the res tower in its spot, then throw a offense tower right on top of it and a couple defense towers around the base or nearby behind a wall. Heres why, res towers have alot more health than a offense chamber, offense chambers on res towers have a good clear line of fire over most nearby structeres, another OT at the base ensures it wont just get knifed, 2 or 3 def chambers into the mix and you have yourself a fortified res tower able to keep a LMGer or two busy long enough to rescue the tower. If you take away the ability to build on or near the node then youll only have the res tower there and youll need to put up a WALL of towers to block it off instead of just 1 or 2.

Second reason: peeps dont accidently put down towers in a res towers spot, only people i have EVER seen do this did it on purpose, if they arent screweing aliens on res nodes then they are screwing them some other way (sense first, offense towers in vents, berzerk gorging), people will grief one way or another and there are far worse things that they will be doing than this.

I've accidentially built an OC on a res nozzle twice. Trust me, it WAS an accident, mouse jerked the wrong way and OOPS! Up a OC goes and I can just stare at it while trying to kick myself inna teeth. Which is hard.

since I upgraded to an ms intelli 3.0 optical I will never, ever consider using a ball mouse again!

I've seen a gorg say ok going for res, then go plonk a sens chamber on the first rt he finds...............

    that would be great...

I have myself built an offense tower by mistake on a node. (I hit the wrong button as I have some commands bound to keyboard so I don't have to go into the menu is how that can happen btw)
I was sitting there thinking how nice it would be if the server had stopped me, or aliens could take down structures. (actually I wish aliens could remove their own structures without being in tourny mode as well!! I hate trying to defend a place and not being able to cause some yahoo made a bunch of off. chambers in some wierd spot!!!)

But yeah, back to the orig point. A plugin would be great to prevent this.
