Stratplan 1.2 is now released and can be downloaed <a href='http://www.mercior.com/sp_download.shtml' target='_blank'>here</a>.

If you're wondering what the hell stratplan is, theres a screenshot <a href='http://www.mercior.com/images/screens/stratplan.jpg' target='_blank'>here</a>.

This is the first public release so despite my attempts to test this & remove all bugs, I'm sure there will be some. Report any bugs or suggestions at the stratplan forum (Linked from my website) or in this thread if you like.

I wont be adding khaara support, so don't ask <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Other things I wont be adding are armories, health, weapons, other silly things like that. I may *possibly* add phase gates - do you think it needs them?

Armouries would acctually be usefull, my hera strat requires the armoury to be placed such that i can give a guy a wealder after he gets to general cargo (thus saving me lots of res incase he dies on rout).

PHases would be good as they're the one other thing that you HAVE to cover.

I'd love to know the port or be able to set the port so i can poke a hole in our firewall.

    Bugs:
    1) If you maximise it the drag/drop stuff all messes up.
    2) The Siege range is set for 1.04 but the tf cost is still 25.

Glad to see you got it up! I'll give it a shot this weekend.

could you put in the option to delete individual items rather than clear all? phase gate would also play a good role in planning. my vote is in for pg's.

I'll add phases in the next release.

Port is 10000 (This is noted on the "technical info" part of my webpage)

I know about the min/maximise issues, Ill try and get them fixed. If you just move the scrollbars a bit everything will be set back to normal

Whats the new TF cost? I'll change it

Deleting individual items will require quite a few changes. I may consider this for a more distant release, not the next release though.

how about giving us the option to resize the window. it's just restore and maximize for me, unless im overlooking something. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ah silly me, shoulda looked at the res of the webbi, I read the docs that d/led and couldn't find it there <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyway, Mercior absolutly brilliant job on the program, looking forward to all future releases, kudos.

btw, The ability to enter in our own siege ranges (along with the numbers for 1.03 and 1.04 might save time in the future <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> )

I'll point my clan to this thread, this looks like a pretty rad idea. I think super-ultra-ideal would be of you could make it like an oekaki thing. You know, those chatroom/sketchpad thingies that are here and there? Then people could draw arrows and stuff on it.

Man, that would rock the boat.

Also, Blueghost, the comma in "Stupid people, are the bane of my existence" is simply grammatically incorrect. I only mention this because of the potentially embarassing irony involved.

Kavasa you mean you didn't notice the spelling error?

Its not irony, its bait for people to argue the point that english skills are in any way related to intelligence.
Accounts for alot of our in-ability to produce AI if you ask me.

No, I didn't. I have a natural tendancy to correct stuff as I read it.

And I think that language skills, period, are indeed related to intelligence. This isn't to say that someone who can't spell is necesarily an idiot, of course. However, in general, the stupider people are, the harder language is for them and vice versa. Except for typos, by the time you're 20 or so, the basic grammatical rules (and their exceptions) of your birth language (and the dialect thereof) should be pretty much down pat.

let's stick to the subject. mercior, you plan to similate the resource production and building the structures. this should give a best case scenario (alien free) to build the perfect defense. this will gauge the time it takes to build all the things you need as well as calculate the resouces it take to build them. just a wish list, take your time. oh could (or i can help with that) put a marker for emphasis or for siezing attention? <img src='http://themediaguys.com/temp/emphasis.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'> that would be helpful with keeping everyone on the same page quickly rather than having them look for the spot you are talking about.

Well there is a /cursor command, which brings up an icon showing everybody where your mouse cursor is pointing that can be used for directing people. I may change the system a little bit, but that would most likely be when I decide to rewrite the whole drawing part of the program to use draw APIs rather than the current system of control arrays (If you follow me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) I have exams soon but perhaps after the exams I could get started on that.

Calculating build times based on res points is an interesting idea I hadn't thought of, again I would do this with a later release as it will require more code than I want to be doing right now. I'll kep it in mind, though.

I bet a lot more people would use it if someone hosted a dedicated server or something.
  • MoroseMorose Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5961Members
Um... just start the server part locally if you want to mess with it. Then set your IP for connecting to it to 'localhost' in the options. Cake. If you have a live IP you can even just msg your friends/clanmates with your computer's IP and voila! You're set.

it would be a great teaching tool for the noobs wanting to get better at this game. hmm, that is not a bad idea. mecior, you will be a popular guy. i got a pile of requests with your name on it, i'll just wait until you get through with my other pile <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

<b>It's</b> not irony, <b>it's</b> bait for people to argue (the point: score -1 [redundant]) that <b>English</b> skills are in any way related to intelligence.

[This] accounts for <b>a lot</b> of our <b>inability</b> to produce <b>AI,</b> if you ask me.

Sorry BlueGhost, you set that one up and asked someone to tee off. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Kavasa is correct; most people will downplay the worth of your points if you fail to express them with good spelling and grammar. I do, and I don't consider that a fault. The ability to spell and write well are generally good metrics of intelligence. The relationship is not causal, but highly correlative.

Nice work Mercior. It beats laminated maps, ruler, and a dry-erase hands down.

What's the procedure for updating winsock under Windows Xp professional?
  • Alpha_1Alpha_1 Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 11041Members, Constellation
I use Win2K, I changed the bat file to copy the files to c:\winnt\system32 and it worked fine for me after that. Look in the XP windows directory for system or system32 and make the changes to the bat accordingly. Should work fine after that.

is it possible to put all the costs/ranges in some txt file that we can change manually, which would save you trouble with the never ending changes. Then you can release patches that edit the txt file if you want...

if not txt, then just an editor to manaully change the variables?

It looks great this far, there are a number of features I would like to see though. Feels a bit incomplete at the moment.

    1. Ikons for Marines
    2. Server switch for removal of area names, hives, etc. all those things you dont need to see. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
    3. Right clicking on an object brings up a menu, upgrade, clear.
    4. Number and Arrow paint tools.
    5. Zoom in and Out functions.

That's what I can think of now...
  • WinkieWinkie Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4034Members
    1. Ikons for Marines
    Can you elaborate on that?

    2. Server switch for removal of area names, hives, etc. all those things you dont need to see.
    Doubt this will happen

    3. Right clicking on an object brings up a menu, upgrade, clear.
    Yup, working on it

    4. Number and Arrow paint tools.
Perhaps, I'll work on something like this

    5. Zoom in and Out functions.
    Possibly. I'll consider it

From the positive feedback I've got I'll start work on a new version whcih implements a new drawing system that should make the program more expandable. Give me a week or so to get it working <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

Interesting program. Too bad there’s a major flaw in its effectiveness as far as placing turrets is concerned. Also, why not alien support? Worried that you’ll have to start fighting smarter/better aliens in the future? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Reason I ask is that with building limitations, a mapping prog like this one could really help neophyte gorges the tricks to building in the right places and building the right chambers. Also, laying down webbing is almost an art in itself, something that this program could help with considering the limitations inherent with good webbing.

Just to let you know, I applaud anyone that writes code, so, good work. Keep giving the marines stuff to make them better (because a challenge makes me better at the same time). <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

interesting. I just saw a couple of points on eclipse that I hadn't previously thought about. I double siege point at the faint possibility of sieging eclipse command from triad...

    server : eaglec.homedns.org
    password : lastresort

    Nice program.

/edit/ btw are you planning to add more maps ?
  • figjamfigjam Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 8144Members
I'm fairly sure this would be merely a matter of changing a few lines, could you allow saving of a layout by a name (EG: eclipse_1, eclipse_2 etc), rather than just having one save? You could just have a name parameter on /save (I assumed that was what it was at first, but I worked out it wasn't), and it couldn't be too hard to change the filename you save to. (It might also be a smart idea if you did this to put the map name in the file so it will only load on that map, but not overly necessary)

wow released at last. great Program, lots of potential. Hopefully it'll continue to get better

    Here are some suggestions <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    1. Ability to place "Marines" , so you can show your crew where to stand and where to move etc.
InFact sod that, how about the ability to place all other structures? (if you want i could make some crude icons <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
    2. Ability to Add Text/annotations to the map.
    3. Right clicking on an object brings up a menu, upgrade, clear (idea by someone else but still good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
    4. Make arrow keys scroll the map?
    5. Zoom toggles.

All in all a very good and usefull program. Keep up the good work <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
