I'm a server admin, possible to give us two icons if we donate?

I mean this, it will display that I am both an admin and hardcore supporter. Like icons side by side.

I'd be willing, but even more so if we can get a discount package deal.

Example: buy a NS T-shirt, get a % discount off of this icon system, or vice versa (donate to get icon, get certain % discount off something in the NS store)

I also don't have parents who trust putting credit card #'s online, and thus don't make enough online purchases to justify creating a Paypal account. Translation: paypal isn't an option for me. Other methods (like snail-mail cash or check) are preferable.

I see no problem, if people cannot donate because of their budget its ok, not everyone is made of money. I think its a great idea to support the developers so they can continue to work hard on this mod.

I did read on mIRC from Flayra he lost his job; so I guess you're probally rite about it. However, $20 just for an icon is a bit much I believe.

I for one would gladly donate $20 to $30, with or without the icon incentive, although the icon would be nice. This has been pretty much my favorite game (And almost the only game I make time for with full time work and school...), and I would welcome this opportunity to help out Flayra and help recompense him for his dedication and efforts in bringing such a wonderful mod to us. Also, if it helps NS to become a full time pursuit for Flayra, instead of just a "when I've got the time" sort of thing, that would be fantastic, assuming of course that Flayra *likes* working on NS, which I think he does.

As others have said, your average new game costs around $50, and this has been one of the best games I've ever paid, and so I would have no hesitation whatsoever in donating.

Sorry to go on like that, but I love this game!

Personally, I would donate with no incentive. However, I think more incentives will get more donations, so here is one suggestion: change the forum group and/or the rank to "patrons" or "supporters." Any more incentives will get even more donations.

Also, I agree that there needs to be more then paypal.

I think this is a good idea, my vote goes to yes.

I don't really mind if I didn't get the icon really, just the thought that I would be helping out NS in some way would make me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I love the mod, and I thank Flayra for the work he's done, but I wouldn't donate to it. There are others who could use it much more. The QERadiant guys have it right. If you want to make a donation, look to your favorite charity. Mine being to help the homeless and less fortunate. Something I encourage more people to do.

i think it's a good idea but you need more than 1 level of donation.

yellow star = $20

gray star = $50

white start = $100

something like that. i would donate $100 happily, if i was employed. doh!

and to answer the people that asked about precedence, i assume that a real rank would outweigh the star. so server ops are just server ops <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'>

also, i wouldn't put <b>too</b> much emphasis on them because a sneaky server admin could write a metamod plugin to give themselves (anyone else) any icon they want, on their server only <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'>

zipper, I hear ya there ... I run the chat servers for another game, and a guy once offered me money if I would make him an operator on the chat server. I didn't think he was serious, but I told him I'd make him an op if he donated money to the Red Cross instead. (They provided me with food and shelter for 2 days when I was caught in a flash flood.) He did actually donate the money (which I confirmed independently, the Red Cross has mechanisms for doing so) ... so I made him an op. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'>

However, I also think that further and more timely development of NS is also a worthy cause. Besides, just because there is some other cause that may "need it much more" does not preclude donating to NS. It's not like you have to choose just one place to donate, unless of course you are extremely limited financially, in which case it's understandable. God I'm rambling.

Multiple levels of donation is where I draw the line. It's almost like saying "HA, I like NS even more than you. See my better star?". It just smacks of post-count spamming to me.

It'ld be nice if simply everybody who really got behind NS had an icon regardless, but donations are really one of the only ways to gauge that. $20 isn't unreasonable for a donation request for something like this. If want to support NS but can't raise $20, you've probably got bigger things on your mind than a little gold star.

Just to clear up any confusion on how this icon thing actually works:
-Your wonID would have to be hardcoded into the mod, which would require a client update.
-You have to turn the icon on by typing 'auth' in the console when your connected to a server, and the icon will turn on when the next scoreboard update occurs. So, you don't have to turn the icon on if you don't want to.

Personally, I think this is a great idea.

<b>Edit:</b> Actually, it doesn't require a client update, it requires a server update only.

This is a great idea and I would gladly donate, you should be compensated for the great work you have done and I want NS to be here in the future getting better and better (we also need him to help keep the llama cheeturs out. This will take constant new coding)

Using paypal is the most easy straight forward way of doing this... you do not need a credit card to make a payment through paypal, if you have a bank account and/or a checking account you can also make payments that way through paypal.

The icon next to your name? great idea... if you give you should be recognized if you want, showing your support for something you really like is nothing to be ashamed of.

you know you can already make a donation even though Flayra hasn't implemented the icon thingie yet. It's on the NS.org FAQ section. I'd love to donate but i'm payin back college loans with NO JOB!!
