Right, Flay, ya have a fan club. Congratulations, you're the next Peter Molyneux.

Ok if it goes by wonid, does your wonid change when you reinstall half-life? How about when you change internet operators, or reinstalling after? If so, will you have to donate again?

Well Svencoop has een taking donations, with perks for those who do. And no, reinstalling/changing ISP/computer would not need you to redonate, as long as you used the same CD key.
I don't Blueghost, I can make a pretty good cupper. And I could answer all of Flayras fan mail
It is not like it is forced either like i said earlier, if you cannot afford it, dont donate, but it would be great if the majority of people could set a aside a few bucks for Mr Cleveland.
I'll donate. Be the best $20 of software I paid for
don't forget, when NS becomes Steam-compatible, some people won't have wonids. they will have ID's that look like this: STEAM_:239847632 (unless they change the steam ID format)
What about the donating itself ? Can i pay with Euros ? How ? Where ? I have heard horror stories from other gaming companies who have needed money. Most of their users agreed to donate, if they had the proper system set up. They built a custom payment system for their clients, and asked for donations to keep the company afloat.
Very little donated. The company went bankrupt.
Here's what's confusing me: what's stopping you from donating now? Is a little icon all that's stopping you from giving a few dollars to the team?
I would donate if I could, but 20 US$ are too much for me. I'm a student without a job and the little money i got go to pay my webspace and some other stuff. I think 10 US$ would be maximum I could spend these days...
I think you should make donating a little bit more attractive to people who donate not to really support the mod but to get the benefits. You could make it at least 5-10 icons a user can choose from (to avoid people saying "that icon look soo g4y" or smething).
There are also some problem that such an icon would bring.. deviding the players into two "classes" for example. I can already seen a paying n00b messing around on the server thinking he's god because he's "payed for it", thinking he's better than us players that play since the mod came out.
Another problem is that there would have to be an patch every week so that donators do not have to wait to long to get their WONIDs coded in... I think there are quite some people that think "why should i download a new patch every few days with such a changelog" like this:

QUOTE

V1.2001: - fixed a small bug. - added 127 WONIDs.
V1.2002: - added 109 WONIDs.
V1.2003: - added 57 WONIDs.
V1.2004: - increased max LMG Ammo. - added 1249 WONIDs.
The problem is that you need to give donators bonuses that do not affect gameplay in any way... The icon indeed is not a bad idea. I'd really prefer giving donators a bonus outside the game... giving them access to a special area on the website with exclusive content (no, i'm not talking about pr0n.. shame on you ), putting donators on a special mailing list that gives them infos about their favorite Mod even before posted on the website (perfect reason for every webmaster to danate ) or giving them the oppertunity to have a little effect on the way the MOD developes by letting them take part in special donator's polls like "should the HMG damage be lowered for balance ?" and so on.
sorry for this text being a little bit weird, but i'm in a hurry right now.. just hope you got my point
An approach i've seen work quite well is to have a seperate 'members only' forum.
It didn't create any friction within the community, the discussions were invariably of a 'higher' quality (not being big-headed, simply an observation)and info could be posted about upcoming updates and specific beta tests they could attend.
Just an idea.
Edit: Incidentally Flay, assuming the poll is correct, you've got a promised $1560 - 2340 already

Good point. Dontating just as soon as I cash my paycheque. (I wonder if it still counts if you donate $20 in Canuck $?. Better make it $30 just to be sure)
I wouldn't mind donating, though you might want to ask for donations for donation's sake and see how that works. If you need more, make 2 icons: 1 for donators and "higher ranked" icon for those who donated before you added it. This would give you some income now, show you what the community suport is like and give incentive for some to donate early rather than waiting for you to code the mod.
=( I wish I could donate... but I think my mom ( YES, I'm under 18 ) would not let me do it =/.
I REALLY wish I could do it, and for the little icon it would just be annoying;
"I rule I got an icon next to my name!" Ankan: That means you've donated money, nothing else. "WTF DO U KNOW ABOUT THAT U ****************?!?!?!?!?!"
An icon would be cool though . Too bad I can't donate ( Reason above ^ ) :|

Knew it would happen... I reckon most mods will start an optional donation system now. Hell, you guys deserve it... I'd probbably donate myself.
While giving yourself into slavery to the NS team is laudable, I think they'd rather have your cash.
