Hear me out on this:

At some spots in the world (Biomes or special locations in some biomes) a legendary creatures lives. these are bigger, better and more dangerous than the rest of it's species and killing them could give you a special
item or something like that...

here are a few ideas i came up with:

NUMBER 1: ''Hunter''
Species: Reaper leviathan
Location: Hunter's den (Dunes)
Character: Aggressive (even attacking other Reapers)
Appearance: A lot bigger than the regular leviathan, one of it's claw-ish things have broken off and it has a lot of scars on it's body

NUMBER 2: ''Mountainback''
Species: Reefback
Location: Around the Floater island (Doesn't dive underwater)
Character: Friendly (But i can be killed if you have enough ''firepower'')
Appearance: Enormous (But not *too* big), has a huge rock on his back

NUMBER 3: ''Skyscreecher the Matriarch''
Species: Skyray
Location: Skyray nests (Mountain Island)
Character: Defensive (Skyray's may become hostile while you are attacking her)
Appearance: Just a big skyray with slightly more red/blue-ish feathers

NUMBER 4: ''Sulfuron'' or something else Fire related
Species: Lava lizard
Location: The molten ocean (Lava zone)
Character: Agressive (Jumps out of the lava)
Appearance: A slightly bigger Lava lizard, Orange/red skin colour instead of green, Lava on it's back

If you have any other ideas feel free to post them below in kind of the same way i did

Thanks for Reading.

The idea seems a little out of place in this kind of a game, but I like it.

I could be an interesting late game objective. Where you hunt down where these creatures are, find a way to get past them into a secret area, and find some kind of Precursor-esque decoration/artifact.

Just some additions to your legendary creatures I would like to make,

On the Mountainback, it could have a large amount of Tiger Plants to guard the artifact, therefore making it "hostile"

    NUMBER 5: "Magnus Ignus"
    Species: Sea Dragon Leviathan
Location: About 500 meters down into the void of the coast of the Greater Blood Kelp
    AI Type: Hostile
Appearance: About 1.5x the size of a regular Dragon, with a darker coloration

    NUMBER 6: "Mordetis Sanguinem"
    Species: Biter
Location: Northernmost part of the Mountains
    AI Type: Hostile
Appearance: About the size of a Sandshark

    NUMBER 7: "Sand Pistris"
    Species: Sandshark
    Location: Easternmost Dunes
    AI Type: Hostile
    Appearance: Slightly bigger, bright red

    NUMBER 8: "Umbra Phantasma"
Species: Phantom Leviathan (I'm assuming that it will be added)
    Location: Ghost Forest, Lost River
    AI Type: Hostile
Appearance: Near black and difficult to see, slightly smaller

Finding a way around the tiger plants would be an interesting idea!
    and by the way:

    NUMBER 9: ''Gorebag''
Species: Floater (Or anything else but heavily mutated)
Location: The Nuclear Hollow (Crash site)
    Character/AI Type: Agressive
Appearance: Imagine a floater, but bigger, more eyes, a malformed mouth and green!

This was just something i came up with when i imagined what effect All the radiation from the aurora would have on the local fauna

How can a floater be aggressive?
  • CaptainBarbequeCaptainBarbeque Hell Join Date: 2017-02-25 Member: 228247Members
Since it's heavily mutated by the radiation and nuclear waste who knows what might happen to it!

I thought that it would attack you by pulling you at him and draining you (a bit like a regular floater if you're not careful)

The idea reminds me a lot of Borderlands, which is kinda why I don't think it would fit too well in the game in exactly the way you described it.
Maybe instead of just straight-up giving you items every time, there's a bit more immersion/lore to it.
Perhaps the Reaper you mentioned only gives you a full item because it was the possession of someone that fell pray to him, but maybe the Reefback simply has large deposits of rare ores like Silver and Lead on its back?

At this rate every creature will be legendary lol :D
  • CaptainBarbequeCaptainBarbeque Hell Join Date: 2017-02-25 Member: 228247Members
@Crawmak that was actually exactly what's my Idea was, that There would be reasons to how and why you got the item

@ShuttleBug of course all those legendarische won't be swimming around at the same time. My Idea was that Everyday game a small selection of those legendaries spawn to give the game a bit more replayabillity (some legendaries could even require special conditions to spawn)

I would say any gameplay mechanic that encourages you to seek out and kill dangerous creatures wouldn't suit this game's spirit. Avoiding dangerous creatures is a big part of this game.
  • CaptainBarbequeCaptainBarbeque Hell Join Date: 2017-02-25 Member: 228247Members
It was never my intention to Kill all of these creatures. sometimes the player may be encouraged to get in, take the item and get out again or Just sneak pas some of them
