[Biome Idea] Opal caves

At this point in development, all ideas can only be implemented after v.1.0, if they ever do. But that doesn't mean we should stop suggestions, right? ;)

I have no idea how hard this would be to program, but my idea is to have a new special kind of cave filled with opalised formations. Here's a series of pics to show you what an opal is:

So yeah, as you can see, those stones a beautiful af. They have special properties in that depending on the angle from which you look at one, it changes colour. Here's an example to illustrate:

My idea isn't to have the entire cave to be opalised. What I'd prefer is to have "windows" in the walls of the cave which show a big opalised stone with a pattern of a nebula or a galaxy or something inside it. Maybe there could even sometimes be sone stalagtites which are opalised 360°

What do you think?

I think it would be gorgeous. Almost as pretty as the flames that'll be shooting out of my potato-powered laptop as it tries to render it. ;)

I would like to see it, though. (The cave, not the flames.)

wow, the ones with cloudy internal structures (especially the second image) are amazing. I have never seen these kinds of opal, just the multicoloured, pearlescent sort.

Should call it the Messmer Cave...hehe...very nice looking stones indeed. Would be perfect for a nice additional eye candy cave.

Oh yeah that's a point, I don't really know what fauna or flora would go well in these. What do you think?

I'd vote for purpleweed and stingers, myself.

Kinda thinking outside the box here but maybe a creature with opal scales or possibly just one distinct opal feature (like eyes, one big stone on its back or fins) that would be passive as long as you didn't mess with it would be amazing just floating along through the cave. (I was thinking maybe a long eel type creature that just slowly slithers around)

Sort of like a creature camouflaged to live specifically in that environment? That has a lot of gameplay potential. An ambush predator that hides very well - easy to spot when moving, but when it bunkers down to wait, is hard to detect because its opalescent scales are similar to the opal walls of the cave. That could be all kinds of cool. :) (I think it'd give Markiplier a heart attack, but even so...)
