    1) Try maxing the settings (sometimes that helps -?!)

    2) Try clearing your cache, see my sig.

I'm having the same issue actually. Game ran perfect (after a complete wipe and reinstall.. been a few months since I played last) and now there is a spot where if I look between West and South on my compass, aiming down, my FPS drops to a staggering low number. Like 10 and under. Its ONLY when looking that direction. On my first game attempt I thought it was because I had built my first base above the entrance to the mushroom caves in the grassy plains. Since then I have nuked and reinstalled completely, no problems for a few days.. built my base near the Aurora's rear thrusters in the safe shallows section, and the FPS issue (sometimes with crashing) started a few days later.

So very strange its only when looking a very specific direction, and a direction that there isn't any underground world or anything on top of that.

IIRC there's still a bug that makes bases always render. So, you're probably facing an underwater Precursor base.

Yeah, not entirely sure. I cleared all my cache and the issue goes away every time. I think it might more be related to the terrain generation and/or the way the game tracks and follows changes and NPCs. I had thoouussaaannndssss of files in my savegame folder when I was deleting cache. Far more then IGP in his video (the one you have in your sig) had and my machine is definitely not on the low end. Overclocked i7 3820 @ 4.6ghz, 16G of ram, geforce 1080, multiple SSDs (OS on one, games on a seperate samsung evo pro) etc.

Hopefully these sorts of issues will get more love before release since optimization passes are usually near the end of the development cycle. Would be nice if they made clearing your cache a little simplier tho ;)

Check the batch file in my sig.

Lol yeah, I meant from the developer side of things tho. :) A 'clear game cache' button in the options that automagically does all this stuff we are doing manually (or with batch files) would be a lot better if the devs simplified the process for the every day joe user who isn't very computer literate. But I know being early access with optimizations still forthcoming they probably don't want to waste time on putting something like that into the game temporarily since the issues should ideally be fixed before release.

Correct. They are working on getting rid of this problem (or at lest severely lessening its frequency) in this next stable update, if I'm not mistaken. And, you're not supposed to have to clear your cache between updates anymore, it's just sometimes whatever fix they did doesn't work, and you have to manually clear the cache.
