RandomTeam Rotating Ready Room
Its R.R.R.R and not "Rrrr", damn downcase.
It kinda solves the problem when 3/4 of all players try to join the same team.
It makes the join_portals rotating!
Guess you need to experience yourself.
join, random is not active, join spectate could be added up or down.
Its just a concept and not more.
r_speeds is a problem because the whole RR is needs to be one brush entity, so it does mot allow THAT much detail.
Would this work on high ping servers?

Another werid idea is:
A big trapdoor below each join_portal opened by a button.
e.g. there are 5 ppl standing in join_marines. one of them (who is les sinterestred in marines) pushes the button, trapdoor below opens fast and all 5 ppl fall into a join_random area -> 3 marines 2 aliens.
(And make a second button in save area)
Or 2 buttons and a 2 sided trapdoor (in one join_area) brings double fun. Each button opens the other half of the trapdoor let the other ppl fall into random team.
e.g. One of 5 pushes the left button. 2 ppl standing right fall down (1 marine one alien) the 3rd pushes the button on the other side. makes the other 5 ppl fall, too (revenge). 2 more aliens one more marine.
toggleable join_fields could be used with this modified .fgd but I did not try thatand i want it visual.

Comments
you must have a choice.
Build your 'specific team' brush as thin as you can, wafer thin in fact.
Immediately behind it, touching it in fact, build a 'random team' brush so if a player walks into a 'join a specific team' brush, and that side has too many players, they end up passing harmlessly through it, and touching the 'random team' brush instead. :-)
If the layer is too thin you get problems on a 20 ppl server when all ppl join at once as its allowed.
I like the idea of ppl voice chatting about the Trapdoors: "Do NOT press the drapdoor buton" and later in team "okay who pressed it."
However, the RR should avoid being too crazy to avoid confusing n00bs, and it should just let people get on the teams and playing the game without having to run around and do stuff (sorry Ollj).

Well, thickness doesn't matter with my modification on the idea...
Lets just say... when they go to select a team on my map, there is no hesitating. Once they start toward one team... they'll get "pushed" into it... and if that team is full... off they go to "randomteam"!
