While it would be cool, it's kinda ridiculous to assume every creature in the ocean lays eggs. There are plenty of aquatic creatures in real life that give live birth.
If they don't lay eggs, they should make it so there are actual young creatures in the ocean you can steal and train.

Have reaper eggs but it attracts adult reapers and they will go anywhere to find them. so if an unsuspecting person takes one home, they wake up to find 4 or 5 reapers circling their base looking for the egg.
