    also changing to my regular account (which owns ns2) and validating didn't fix it.

    I still suspect that it's a permissions issue.

    Can I have the output of 
    stat /home/ns2server/serverfiles/system/
    and 
    stat /home/ns2server/serverfiles/system/awesomium/webui_assets.pak
    This will tell me various amounts of information about the folder and file, including the permissions and owners.
