Thinking of swapping the Video cards since I haven't been playing many Graphically intensive games on the Steam Machine, mostly indies. NS2 runs alright. I think in either case NS2 will be CPU bound for me. When my CPU was overclocked I got a steady 60FPS+, I am now dropping down to 35 near end game. Still technically playable... but pretty awful. As I mentioned before I may be having other issues with my main rig though... CPU multiplier randomly shifting rapidly even when under load.

run everything on low @ 720p and the game still eats a bag of dicks late game when the entity limit starts to get maxed and particle effects are everywhere

o/s:... vista 64 (ya seriously... I'll switch to 7 at some point... I still use xp as well to play my old games like mech commander)
Monitor: uh not very new, syncmaster 245 bw (24 inch monitor)

Keyboard: Some old wireless logi that I've been using forever and should upgrade at some point
Headset: Logi G35

I went with a big air setup (1x 120 mm fan, 5x 140 mm fan and 3x200 mm fan) keeps things cool enough, someday I'll go liquid I'm sure but meh... Just like at some point I'll get an SSD and put windows 7 on it. I'm using the thermalright silver arrow sb-e extreme, I used to use the hyper evo 212 and honestly that thing was pretty awesome as well (the sb-e only gets me about 7-8 degrees cooler when kept to a reasonable volume, maybe 10 ish degrees cooler when I crank the fans up to 2500rpm but that is fairly loud...)
Game normally sits around 110 - 135 fps in game with everything maxed out (I turned off AA for some nicer fps in hectic late game) I've still seen it dip down to 45 fps though.
Runs game smoothly @ 1920x1200 with all the fancy graphics options disabled (minimal infestation, no shadows, minimal gui (ns2+), no bloom, Atmospherics and Ambient Occlusion etc.). Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are on, though. I get average 90-100 fps depending on map with dips down to 60 in full scale assaults on bases with a lot of entities.
If you want fancy graphics or a 120hz Monitor, I'd recommend something a bit more recent and pricier though.

35€ Macho beating the 67€ "king"? NO WAI!
But that overpriced Noctua gotta be better at semi-passive cooling, right? At least? Please? Superior royal design and everything?
Seriously though @meatmachine, make up your own mind. Full hardware review can be read here. Have fun!
It has 128Ko Ram, CGA graphics and high definition text ...
Now the question is : Where can I find NS2 on 5"25 floppy disks ? Thanks.
