But that overpriced Noctua gotta be better at semi-passive cooling, right? At least? Please? Superior royal design and everything?
    Nope.

Seriously though @meatmachine, make up your own mind. Full hardware review can be read here. Have fun!

CPU: Intel i5-650 @3.2GHz (formerly OC'd at 4.2GHz, currently having... issues. So it is back at stock)
    Motherboard: ASUS P7P55 LX
    Video: HD7770
    Ram: 8GB @1600MHz
    SSD: 120GB ADATA + 2TB WD Green + 350GB WD + 120GB PNY SSD
    O/S: Win 8.1 Update 1
    Monitor: LG 24"
    Mouse: Logitech G700
    Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X
    Headset/Mic: Plantronics GameCom 780

I also have a steam machine

    CPU: AMD A8-5600k @3.6GHZ
    Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+
    Video: ASUS GTX760 Direct-CUII
    SSHD: Seagate Hybrid Drive 1TB
    OS: SteamOS
    Monitor: Phillips 42" HDTV
    Keyboard/Mouse: Gigabyte KM7580/optical mouse
    Headset: None
Link with Pictures at PC Part Picker

Thinking of swapping the Video cards since I haven't been playing many Graphically intensive games on the Steam Machine, mostly indies. NS2 runs alright. I think in either case NS2 will be CPU bound for me. When my CPU was overclocked I got a steady 60FPS+, I am now dropping down to 35 near end game. Still technically playable... but pretty awful. As I mentioned before I may be having other issues with my main rig though... CPU multiplier randomly shifting rapidly even when under load.

CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz (stays nice and cool maxes out at about 62 on air ^_^)
    mobo: p8z77-v le plus
    video: GTX 780 classified @ 1215 core 3300 memory
    ram: 8 gigs
o/s:... vista 64 (ya seriously... I'll switch to 7 at some point... I still use xp as well to play my old games like mech commander)
Monitor: uh not very new, syncmaster 245 bw (24 inch monitor)
    Mouse: Logi G500
Keyboard: Some old wireless logi that I've been using forever and should upgrade at some point
    Headset: Logi G35
    PSU: HX850

I went with a big air setup (1x 120 mm fan, 5x 140 mm fan and 3x200 mm fan) keeps things cool enough, someday I'll go liquid I'm sure but meh... Just like at some point I'll get an SSD and put windows 7 on it. I'm using the thermalright silver arrow sb-e extreme, I used to use the hyper evo 212 and honestly that thing was pretty awesome as well (the sb-e only gets me about 7-8 degrees cooler when kept to a reasonable volume, maybe 10 ish degrees cooler when I crank the fans up to 2500rpm but that is fairly loud...)

Game normally sits around 110 - 135 fps in game with everything maxed out (I turned off AA for some nicer fps in hectic late game) I've still seen it dip down to 45 fps though.

I am running it at 1920x1200

    Ivy Bridge i5 3470@3.4Ghz, Radeon 7870@1Ghz, 8GB DDR3 1070 (666Mhz).

Runs game smoothly @ 1920x1200 with all the fancy graphics options disabled (minimal infestation, no shadows, minimal gui (ns2+), no bloom, Atmospherics and Ambient Occlusion etc.). Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are on, though. I get average 90-100 fps depending on map with dips down to 60 in full scale assaults on bases with a lot of entities.

If you want fancy graphics or a 120hz Monitor, I'd recommend something a bit more recent and pricier though.

Figure this'd be a suitable first post...

    CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k OC'd to 4.0 GHz
    Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    Video: Sapphire Radeon 7850
    Ram: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X
    O/S: Windows 7 64-bit
    Monitor: Acer P238HL
    Mouse: CM Storm Sentinel II
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 (Cherry MX Reds)
Headset/Mic: Logitech G230. I haven't used it yet because I'm a little afraid of actually talking...
