When new patch will be available?

Hello!

I've tried a free weekend and almost decided to buy it. Almost...

The game has a aweful optimaization. I've passed a recommened specs:

AMD Athlon II 250 x2 3.2GHZ
Radeon 6850
4GB RAM

And still, it's unplayable - everything on low in 720p doesn't help. There will be patch soon? I really want to buy it, buy I am not sure, if my computer doesn't handle it (Even that it should).

    Hi there.

NS2 is a VERY CPU intensive game, more so than games like Battlefield 3. This is because the game runs via the lua scripting language which requires a fast CPU.

Your Athlon CPU is quite underpowered against most other modern CPUs:

You can see from the chart here:

While NS2 will run faster over time, your CPU is seriously holding you back. Thanks!

I've got a similar system to you (probably a little less), so I feel your pain:

    AMD Athlon X2 5600+ @ 2.8ghz
    Geforce 460 GTX
    6GB RAM @ 800mhz

Currently I run in 1280*720 res, everything on low except for texture streaming, and I can maintain around 20 (lowest) to 60ish (highest) fps during various parts of the match. It usually averages 30-40ish fps in normal fighting except for the absolute heaviest (ARCs, EXOs, full team of aliens\marines in same room) is where it dips to about 20.

It's fully playable and smooth at these settings, but it does make me want to get an upgrade since the game is so pretty :D On the new biodome map, there is some performance issues that'll most likely be addressed this coming week. This was a huge expansion so there is usually some performance issues after big launches like these, that typically get fixed quickly. I know this was the case with gorgeous back in February.

It's a great game, not sure what's to lose now that its currently on sale for 6 bucks.

So to play NS2 i need a modern high-end processor? Can't afford for that. There is a hope I can play in this game with my Athlon II 250 after patch or something?

Another problem is that the Reinforced patch that came just before the free weekend made everyone suffer issues atm until they fix things. So yeah you could have better luck in the near future, but dont expect anything real smooth.

I just want to play in 1366x768 - even on low - i don't need uber-graphic to enjoy the game. Untill i get a new processor.

Patches likely to come with performance improvements but I wouldn't expect any miracles.

Resolution has no impact on performance. You can run at 1920x1200 if your GPU is up to it and still have the same frame rate. It's the CPU that's the bottleneck, and unfortunately you will need a faster one to enjoy this game. There won't be a patch for this game to make it any more CPU efficient. Believe it or not this game was about 2 times worse only several patches ago. The devs JUST made the game playable on more than just overclocked 2500Ks. Prior to that patch you needed an overclocked $300 CPU to get a solid framerate. It's not going to get any better.

Open your console and type: r_mt false

Let me know if it helps.

I am going to check it now. But when I type it, nothing appears at console - does it good?

Everything on low and it works just fine - i have a low FPS when it's really messy on the map, but it's good for now.

    I don't see any difference

Nothing appeared for me also, but it seemed to fix everything. My game was unplayable, now it's perfect.

Did you type it in menu or in-game?

So it doesn't work for me, I think.

Too bad. Mine got magically fixed. No fps lag at all. The only problem that returned which I thought was fixed is the game crashing while it's alt tabbed for a while.

    I don't have that crash...
