Locking Posts?

Why? Good reason please.
Maybe this should be in the off topic area.
Moderating posts is fine, like removing the offensive ones etc.
But why oh why do you have to lock posts? Its a form of censoring. You are stopping people from adding to the discussion. At the moment, this is what happens.
1. Some1 raises a point that has been made before.
2. People start to discuss it again, possibly adding new arguments to the discussion.
3. Admin comes along and locks it.
4. You either have to forget the point you wanted to make before u realised it was locked.
OR
5. Start a new post. Which will probably be locked.
In the end, we are going to get to a point where everything has been discussed. What happens then, does everything just get locked?
NS is probably going to be here for along long time, new people will come here. So, please, get used to the fact now that people are going to end up raising the same points.
The only problems i can see with letting a post run and run is running out of space, and with the problems your having around here, who knows?

But yeah, if its just full of flaming i understand that.
I will note that tired as he may be to hear it, this topic (he who possesses two hives wins in 1.03) is nonetheless at the forefront of many experienced player's minds, and cannot be stressed enough.
At the same time, however, I suppose if he left those threads unlocked everybody would run screaming from the forum as it slowly overfills with balance related angst.
Suffice to say, to an extent, moderators are their own judge, jury, and executioner. Get used to it.
1) Waste forum bandwith
2) Neither side convinces the other
3) It eventually climbs up into a flame
Those sound like good reasons to me, don't they?
Well, seeing as often as the damn thing goes down, i think i might just be able to afford that. j/k.
Im not asking them to do what I want, it wasnt even my post. I just think that its wrong to lock a post on the bases that its been discussed before. Even if it has been "Discussed to death". Surely if it had been discussed to death, people wouldnt be replying.
Basically it boils down to one side saying "We're right" and the other side saying "We're right" and them both reiterating the same points over and over and over, eventually exchanging facts for flames until one of the poor beleagured moderators comes along, sighs, and shuts the damn thing down, for the 700th time.
However, since I know everything then naturally anybody that argues with me is just arguing against the very progress of humanity!!!!!

Surely this is the point of a forum? To let us debate things.
If something turns into a flame, sure, lock it down. But if its just 2 people arguing over a point, who cares? You are not forced to read it.

1. I knew there was a space problem ! Maybe we need to start donating to the NS website.
2. Where is the problem here?
3. Then this is the time to lock it.
My personal experience is that if you disagree with a certain post being locked it is best to e-mail the Admin who locked it and present your case directly to them. If worse comes to worse and you feel he has abused his powers then forward your e-mails to the senior Admin.
It's a matter of respect and is probably more effective then posting thread disputing the reasons for why your thread was locked.
1. Locking is at their discretion.
2. It is the Admin's opinion which counts. It doesn't matter if every forum goer agrees with you. At the end of the day it is the Admin who says what goes so take your case to him.
Just my thoughts on these types of threads.
*Regarding that particular post.*
He should have done a search before posting. I understand he probably didn't intend to start a debate but if he wanted to know if there are particular values or tactics that make the game inbalanced he should have done the search because there would have bound to a few threads on the topic.
Look at the Total Posts Stat for General Discussions. Could your question be answered somewhere in the 4189 threads and 66120 replies in there?
Use the search, it is a good tool.
Because, if we are, I really like the irony of that.
Good question.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a flame war but damn amusing thought you had geldonyetich. I got a good laugh.
Some ideas may be locked if they've been specifically denied in the past, if they simply will not work, or if they're not good ideas. May be locked, mind you.
If there are multiple threads about the same topic, especially if both are on the front page, of course one is going to be locked.
There are many reasons to lock a topic, and I'm sure that the other mods aren't just arbitrarilry locking them.
Good question.

OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T KNOW YOIU (@)#$(#@()$(@ @#$@#$!!
(In other words, where a flame war starts is much like where a 2000 lb Gorilla gets to sit in a movie theatre. Anywhere it wants.)
Nemesis Zero: This has been discussed to death. **LOCKED**
Comprox: Flayra has very clearly stated [Insert repetetive idea]. Argue away though guys, keep it nice
i've been to many forums and seen many "controversial" discussions that should have been locked up from page 1 but ended up turning into a great disscusion that definitly deserves a good read with many positive (and negative) comments in the end.
just try not to lock up threads, especially controversial ones, i know you are doing us a favour, but many of us have seen the light of the world and have been back to tell about it.
blah
And yes, a dead, flame full topic could become some amazing discussion, but this is gaming forums. Can we say less chance than winning that 10 million dollar lotto? hehe
