80fps but very stuttery since the 8/27 patch.

The new patch seemed to boost my performance a bit, as I'm now running 80+fps, but the game is now unplayably stuttery. It seems like skipped frames or something. Activating vsync doesn't help. Before the patch I was getting slightly lower fps, but it was buttery smooth. As it stands, I can't track aliens quickly and really can't play the game.

Is anyone else having this issue after the new patch, and does anyone have a fix? (Running a 1.5GB GTX480 @ 850mhz and an i5 @ 4.0ghz. Infestation and atmospherics set to off. 80fps as stated before)

Are you running dx9, dx11, or open gl?

I would try other options and see if they work better or worse.

I was having a pretty bad time (r) myself tonight, using dx11. Same config, GTX480, i7-920@4.1Ghz. I didn't check the FPS but the game felt considerably worse than before. Playable, but worse. I think I'll try openGL and dx9 to see if that'll make a difference. 1920x1080 max settings. I notice this game maxes out my video memory which is a bit unfortunate. Need an upgrade but I'm waiting for the AMD launch of the 9xxx series to lower the prices of the 780s a bit :-P ...

I'd test moar, but it's late and I have to work tomorrow.

    I have the same problem

    CPU: i7 3770k
GPU: GTX 680 Gainward Phantom (OC)
SSD: Corsair Force 3 64 GB (NS2 + Steam installed)

    Playing on 1920x1080 , 60 Hz

I have 70-85 fps everything on high , 85-95 everything on low. It stutters and its unplayable
If I go down with the Resolution 1680x1050 , its pretty smooth with 100-115 fps.

    Same here.

    i7 2700k @ 4.5ghz and a GTX 670.

Before this patch the game always felt smooth.
Now it feels laggy, like low fps and also looks like it. But fps r ok.

Tried dx9 and 11 so far..

EDIT: I always had vsync on.. dont want to play without. Also Multithread was always on.

OpenGL without vsync seems better.. but not rly good.
    Cant play till fixed.

    Same problem here.

The answer is probably in my question here: http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/131655/build-252-disabling-multithreaded-rendering#latest
Its due to multithreaded rendering being forced now instead of being an option. You all had it disabled before right?
  • OuchOfDeathOuchOfDeath Join Date: 2013-02-04 Member: 182825Members
No I had it enabled. Had no stuttering problems before.

Same here. Laggy and seems to be skipping frames. Vsync always off.

    i7 3770k @ 3.5ghz, GTX 570, SSD (samsung 830's) and 16GB Vengeance low latency ram.

Before this patch the game ran silky smooth. Even during heavy battles.
Now it feels laggy, like with a low fps. Also tried dx9 and 11 and Opengl.

Before this patch, was this game dx9 or dx11??

before the patch it was dx 9 only.

same issue here. dx9 or opengl, ati 6850, ssd, i5, 8gb ram. Have absolutely no issues at all pre 252.

dx9 was perfectly fine for me, dx11 was stuttering and I did not bother with openGL.

    i7 4770k @ 4.2 ghz
    1280 x 720 @ 120hz
    AMD Radeon 6950
    16 gb ram
    samsung 250 gb ssd

same here, big stuttering in dx11, and little frame drop (like 50fps average vs 60-65fps in dx9).
with ogl dropped from 155 to 105 fps in the menu, so didn't try to use it in game.

    Phenom II x4 @ 4ghz + ATi5870
    multicore always been on

    Hi everyone

I also have the same problem since the days of a build my 252 Tri-fire AMD 6970 no longer works, only one card is recognized games.

The thank you frankly the NS2 DEV of anything, should test a product before putting it in days

I can confirm im having the a moment for 1-2s in-game with dx11. it happends randomly for me, but the game never crashes.

So shutting down multithreading fixed my stuttering problem.
If you have high FPS but still stuttering use this in the console:

    r_mt false

note: r_mt is the command for multithreading you can activte it by typing in r_mt true , and deactivate with r_mt false
    or r_mt 1 (ON) r_mt 0 (OFF)

We do test. Unfortunately, UWE are a VERY small team. They do not have access to hundreds of different configurations, settings, branded cards or drivers. These things will happen, and do happen to other smaller devs.

Im only getting 12 fps using DX9 or DX11 in menu and game, reinstalled DX setup from NS2 to see if that was problem still 12 fps.
    I have SLI GTX 560 Ti and i5 2500K OC to 4.5Ghz
Had no issues before update using SLI and Multi core.
OK reboot has increased it to 30-45 fps , still very low.

    im using DX9 and AMD Radeon 6570 + intel Core i3 3,10Ghz + 4Gb ram

FPS is ultra low even in 800x600 and low all Graphics option

I think we need b254 ASAP like Build 249 - 250 before this happen

Update: After todays patch it feels smoother (tested dx9 and 11). Playable, but still not really smooth like it was before those two patches.

What i notice is when i strafe and watch an edge, the edge vibrates/stutters.

I had that too @oMe. However restarting computer/game fixed it for me.

    I got the same problem.

DX9: Great framerate (70-80 FPS) but a lot of stuttering.
DX11 or OpenGL: After loading map, game gets very slow (0-2 FPS), then freezes and crashes.

    CPU: Intel i5 2500k
    GPU: AMD Radeon 6950
    RAM: 8 GB

    VSync off
Always used multithreading before the patch without problems.

Same problem for me... The game runned smooth before the 3 patch of those 3 last days, and now I have a framerate loss :'(
  • CompizfoxCompizfox Join Date: 2013-08-31 Member: 187406Members
Turning on VSync did the trick! No more stuttering on DX9.

I still consider DX11 and OpenGL bugged btw.

Same problem here, I posted the problem earlier. I used to get 60+ fps in previous builds, very smooth, no problems. Now it's unplayable so I am just waiting for a patch.
  • SjNSjN Join Date: 2003-01-07 Member: 11983Members, Reinforced - Supporter
    r_mt false fixed the problem.
