Game freezes right after menu!

When I start up NS2, everything works fine. But when I hit a menu option (Play, Practice, Options, Mods) the option makes an animation but just stops on the upper right side of the screen like this. 
The sounds and animations work fine, (Like the drone fixing the the background) but the game does not advance at all. The only menu option I can get to work is the Exit option, which isn't much help. I tried reinstalling the game from steam, but it still freezes. The game worked fine when it was in free weekend for me a couple months ago.

edit: If the above solution does not work, then do as @JCD said and manually delete everything, to include your hidden %appdata%\Natural selection 2\ folder.
