Half-Life had a bee cannon as well... Alien bees > Bees!

Unfortunately half life hadn't invented the technology to make people react to being attacked by alien bees so it was just a homing dart gun.

Bioshock on the other hand lets you shoot many huge swarms of bees that make people flail around.

Plus you can shoot them out of your arms, better than the bee cannon.

It's like I'm a supervillain whose powers are bee themed. I should be wearing a bee costume and a cape, and compound goggles.

Having spent a couple of days reading LPs of 3 XCOM games, I would have thought it would translate near-perfectly to an FPS like republic commando. Just needs the AI to support it, but the more player direction you rely on the better the AI can be. I'm sure you could make the game about setting up your squad in cover and pointing them at the doors to react to incoming threats.

Steam lists about 5 different X-COM titles.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The first one, UFO Defence/Enemy Unknown (name varies with locale) is the one everyone talks about. Apocalypse was apparently good too but harder to get into.
    Other XCOM titles are junk.

The 'modern' (or 'accessible') features ALWAYS take precedence and end up tarnishing the game. It's not "let's take the classic, update it, and find out new ways to do what didn't really work", it's "lets take this half-assed shooter and reskin a couple things".<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm not looking at it as an XCOM game, so problem solved.

It's worth playing just for that.

It's also worth playing in a soundproof room so you can yell BEEEEEEEEES really loud every time you do it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Woot!

Bioshock really was about the story and the mix of crap I could pull off. The rest of the shooter aspects were just whatev, true. The story though was pretty awesome (blah blah copied System Shock. Bite me), pretty graphics, and overall the feel/atmosphere was just right for me.

I personally enjoyed the Camera research. Fun to get just the right time to take a pic in the middle of a battle. I know some people hated it.

And yes, bees were great. So was lining up 3 traps for a Big Daddy to fall into in the end level. Zap. Boom. BEEES. Turret.

    That actually doesn't change anything.

But it makes all the stuff you have a problem with not be a problem for me.

Lots of things aren't music, steak and chips isn't music but I still like steak and chips.

Similalrly, lots of things aren't strategy but I still like them.

If you want a comparable example, outdoors isn't music, but it still sounds nice.

It looks like an interesting shooter. But only very very vaugly reminds me of anything of Xcom.

Ya, the mood is a little bit similar, but non of the content really resembles anything. There seems to still be a mind control mechanic, I like things that make you distrust your friends in a non scripted way.

It's really an entirely different title than Xcom. I still think they should have just made it an entirely new IP instead of trying to cash in on the title, but I see why they did it. Any press is good press. At least they're not making a twisted metal game or something and calling it Xcom.

I prefer futuristic to retro, so the setting here isn't compelling. They'll have to work for it to draw me in.

    RESSURECTION

Boy does it feel weird to see what we were thinking so long ago. Anyway, I'm necroposting in order to bring you this:

This actually is starting to look like something.

I don't think I've seen the movements and combat feel so thoroughly ripped from GoW ever before.

Don't wanna be a grammar-guy, but the guys making this are actually the ones who made Bioshock 2... If Ken Levine was with them I could have some hope for it :/
