Crash while playing. Last log message: Desync on snapshot read

clampsclamps Join Date: 2013-04-28 Member: 185021Members
I've frequently been crashing while playing. It happens more on high population servers, especially "Newbie School." I've tried all of the tips listed in the sticky post including reinstalling the game. No luck.

Are the ns2.exe symbols available anywhere? I could open the dump in a debugger and maybe find out why it crashed.

Thats... one i haven't seen before..

Run techsupport.exe while ns2 is still opened/in a crash state, to make a ns2 dump file.
Only do this after you have Deleted your hidden %appdata%\Natural selection 2\ folder (see stickied known problems thread for detailed instructions)
and then verified cache through steam. (right click ns2 and go to properties)
    and tried again.

Hey IronHorse, thanks for the quick reply.

Deleted Appdada\NS2 folder. Here's my most recent crash. Another desync on snapshot.

This is what I could get out of the dump. It's not much...

I found that I had 2 mods subscribed (but disabled). Alien textures (the one that makes everything black), and minimap colors. I unsubscribed those and removed the Workshop folder and crashed again. Same desync on snapshot. Different callstack

For what it's worth, I played for 3 hours tonight on a different server and had no problems.

@clamps thanks for all the info! Does this only happen on one particular server?
  • clampsclamps Join Date: 2013-04-28 Member: 185021Members
This happens on multiple different servers. "The 32 man server that never lags" is another where I often crash. Like I said, it seems to be correlated to higher population servers. I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific server mod or anything like that. @DC_Darkling, I haven't taken any screenshots so I don't think that's it.

This looks like it might be a job for Max or Brian.

@clamps try playing without being subscribed to any mods and see what happens.

Good idea, and these crashes occurred when all mods were unsubscribed and removed.
