Black Screen on Startup

Hello! I recently got this game and tried to run it for the first time today. Upon running through steam, it was performing the first time setup for dx.
It was briefly cancelled with the error
"DXSETUP.exe - Bade Image

C:\Windows\system32\xactengine2_0.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installion media or contact your system admistrator or the software vendor for support."

After pressing ok, it allowed to continue and Natural Selection 2 ran. I was able to see the cursor and hear the sound effects, but it was completely pitch black.
I've tried using the method in the trouble shoot method by deleting the shaders folder, manually changing the screen resolution but still no dice.

    Check to make sure your video card drivers are up to date as well as Direct X.

    Thanks for the reply! Just tried updating both my drivers and Direct X but still no die. Not sure what's wrong. Also been trying to reinstall DirectX with the installer inside the redist folder.

    Since you just got the game I'm guessing some file was corrupted or did not update/download correctly. Try verifying the integrity of the game cache files.

    Just tried verifying the integrity of the game and reinstalling for the 3rd time. Still getting this problem. Might be a problem with my directx files? Not sure which ones it would be though.

    crash / hang / bug your ns2 like normal and keep it open.
    Go to the following folder and start techsupport.exe
    folder = "steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2"

    Wait for it to finish (takes a while) and upload the zip to something like dropbox.
    Mail it to tech-support@unknownworlds.com

    Be as clear and informative in your mail as you can, even linking to this topic.

    What kind of monitor are you using? Check to make sure that the latest drivers for it are up to date.

    After some time researching those DX install errors:

    Unfortunately, to solve this problem, you have to do a system restore to an earlier point before you installed DirectX and redownload and install it. If that doesn't work, you have to do a repair install of Windows 7 to be able to fix the DirectX issue. This is the only way that other people with the same problem have been able to resolve it. With either procedure, you won't lose any files, but a number of system parameters will be reverted to their default values.
