I don't think it really fits with the theme of NS2... this is the kind of thing that I think most players would like to avoid. I would imagine it would be a very easy mod to make, though. Could probably just do something like tying the blood decals to a button, then allowing for the decal to be customized. I don't know how you'd get it to show for other players though unless it was server side... but I don't know much about modding.
In other games I remember spray decals being used mostly to put porn or offensive slogans on the walls.
As much fun as they can be, they also can lead to a ton of abuse. The things I saw as a child playing CS. My word.
Yeah i remember those days. There's always some jerk who wants to put nasty stuff on the images. Most servers dealt with offensive sprays pretty effectively if that was something they wished to crack down on.

Why wouldn't it fit the theme? Is graffiti outlawed in space?

Is there any good reason for a highly trained and disciplined marine to vandalize that which they're supposed to protect? I mean, they're not rebels, adolescents or anything that resembles chaos.
Besides not fitting with the game theme, it's easy to abuse, as has been said on the topic.

I guess I don't see how badges fit with the game theme either, yet it is possible to have those. I suppose a server side mod could be installed to support this but it would seem like it would have to add components to the game in terms of menus to customize such additions.
Oh God, CS sprays were the best. Mine was totally cool, describing my favorite weapon and aliases and it had some kinda anime pic in it, which was totally okay at the time.

Being a former real-life Marine, I can safely say that every Marine had either a vehicle, helmet, or piece of equipment tagged with a nickname, logo, or slogan. So, I would imagine that future marines in space would do the same.

Good point, I totally forgot about that.
But you probably didn't spray every wall of every place you went to.
Having aspects of personalization in any game is grounds for being awesome for example fc3 and tattoos.
Sprays are just a small component of customization in game.
Having such freedom can be parlayed into customizable armor & gun colors as well as differing squad decals. Other changes for alien color adjustments could also be inputted.
There are mods which allow you to change your appearance on the client side. I realize that. To me it still is not as cool as seeing black armor players amongst green armor players.
I understand this is not a priority nor am I advocating this be done now. I believe having subtle things such as these keeps the game enjoyable and fresh for everyone playing it.

Now this I'd like, a little subtle customisation to your model or skin that everyone can see.

Go away, I don't want boobs and butts plastering the walls of NS2. I'm hired to shoot Skulks or bite marine kneecaps, not ogle some random stuff spawned from the mind of weirdlings!

I don't think it is appropriate for NS2 though. It kinda ruins the atmosphere. Now, if we could get some sort of custom decals for the armor or something...
I would rather have a badge painted on the marine's armor (shoulder or helmet) and aliens carapace (back for skulk and gorge, belly for lerk [flying], chest for fade, face for onos).
A decal on your player model would be a lot cooler than sprays imo

'... plastic cups littering the floor,
"Johny was here!" on every door...'
For NS2?
No.
You could disable custom sprays and only allow defaults

edit: I don't want to see sprays in this game

That came waaaaaay later. I'm pretty sure that wasn't in gldsrc back in the yester-year of my tweens.
Then again that was well over a decade ago so hell if I remember.

But, yes, low priority.
Fake egg spray FTW /me runs
Just sayin... :P
