For the majority of forums I browse I just look at the Activity/New Posts/ect section rather than having to open several tabs, but it just isn't viable on these forums. I think it's only returned two threads total the past two weeks. Seems like the duration of time the website uses to determine whether a post is new is far too low, as in near the five minute range. My suggestions would be to change that timer to something more realistic such as 30-90 minutes, or just do what most every other website does and revamp it to show all new posts since your last viewing of the forums, no matter how long ago it was.
I'd prefer the latter personally.
