    I think this was due to servers not updating, i had those issues (+ others), and they appear gone now. If you want to check, join monash #3 Combat, although you wont get a pretty ping.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

    We've just put out a new update to Combat. This should fix the Tier2/Tier3 issues and hopefully some of the problems with leap that people have been reporting (though I can't be sure, I'm still testing to find the root cause).

    EDIT: Leap and blink prediction still aren't working so you seem to teleport if you have a high ping. I'll see if we can fix this over xmas but it may take some time...

    It very well could of been the server I played on instead of a default setting, but the timer had been extended by 10 minutes.
    Means 10 more minutes of painfully boring exo and onos play. Personally I'd like to see it exo's and onos spam limited as much as possible possibly until the last minutes.

    I believe the exos are limited (not sure about onos though). Despite this, I would also like to see them limited more so, too (especially Onos).

    limiting onos or exo suit isn't good idea, its already limited to pretty low number. the problem is rather lack of builds you can choice from building your character.

    i've posted this in another thread, might as well copy paste it here since this mod needs it.

    1. Porting over NS2c mod movement to combat mod - this will improve current bad jetpack movement, and aliens greatly
    2. redesigning gorge chambers, adding ns1 models allow the gorge to build forts for example like he did before and allow marines to build turrets for example as well
    3. bring back /xmenu ideas other good example this third option holds much more options which can vary greatly for both sides
    4. bring back the old HMG into the game, without being forced buying exo suit (since of the limit currently)
    5. add and improve; acid rocket, projectile spores, xeno, celerity etc

    adding better options for other classes would make them more appealing, would reduce everyone wanting to be an onos or grabbing that exo suit. Since everyone grabs them because its sometimes the only fun factor in the game for some people.
    We should enhance other classes with better abilities, taking ideas from ns1, and ns1 combat mod (xmenu), i've listed examples above which should spice up combat mod.

    that is exactly what is our aim with the new UI, to give the player the choice to specializing in the unit or weapon he choses, exos and oni will be limited by time for instance if u buy one a 2min count down will start, if the player decide to mindlessly charge in and die he/she will have to wait, if u play good and survive longer than 2min and die u will be able to instantly revolve after dieing. maybe either remove or increase the total amount of exos and oni on each team.

    As for other stuff like build menu for gorges and marines with welders and xmenu type stuff and other abilites for aliens and marines its all coming its only a matter of time, we only have 2 programmers atm and between new features, bug fixing, balance stuff etc there is only so much they can do with the free time they have.

    While you're making all these changes, I have an idea to make Marines win more often. Make it so when you buy an exosuit, it auto-paths to the hive room. Seriously. Let the guy with the exo aim and shoot but don't let him control the movement unless he has line of sight to the hive.

    Alas, that would probably imbalance the gamemode in the marines' favor. The only reason Aliens win as often as they do is because of ineffective exosuit use.

    My big wish .... I know it might not ever happen but.

    I really miss buildmenu ... being a gorge just doesn't have the power it did in NS 1. Late game ... its a death sentence.

    The ability to spend points to drop chambers was spectacular and made gorging worth while late game.

    Let my gorgie build!!

    With the death of the OC , buildmenu could allow you to use a point to build 3 more hydras, an sc, etc.

    Make it happen Co gods .... make it happen, I want to gorge and feel powerful again

    I believe ya --- I just miss it. I basically play all co_ and I typically gorge early and bail on it because I'm semi useless.

    Drop some hydras, drop some sc's to hide those suckers .... then .... then I have a reason to stay gorge

    I think each alien should be able to level up and become more deadly just like marines, it shouldn't be a race to fade/onos or exo, i know you're doing something a bit like this for marines but the same should be possible for aliens as well, let us have a battle gorge or a builder gorge if we want, a deadly skulk late game, sure i don't expect them to get as much health as an onos but something decent late game would be good.

    Not sure if you guys are still having issues with the tier2/tier3 abilities, but from the testing I did it looks like it may be because the predict VM does not think you have the upgrade, so its predicting things incorrectly.

    Y and cause it wasn't loaded by the client, I think I could fix it now and hope greeds can upload it soon.

    Also .... hydras need some more health, 2 not even on target grenades just take em out.

    Not sure if its a standard setting of the mod, but i found some servers now have restricted slots on fades besides onos. (dunno maybe this was longer in the game, and i just didnt notice it ,since im usually doing well enough to get what i want early -> realized it when i joined a server where the game was running for quite a while, lategame join)

    Ns2 is not TF2 where every class is somewhat equal, this seems to be a bad way to fix balance problems caused by too many high tier lifeforms at the same time.

    You pretty much force a good part of a team into playing lower lifeforms, its annoying trying to steal a slot. (pretty much beeing lucky or waiting in safety for someone to die that has the lifeform you want)

    I have no problem playing skulk or lerk for long times, but when every marine is starting to run around fully upgraded with shotguns and jp or in exos... dunno. (imagining being fade compared to skulk or lerk at this point is much nicer)

    edit:

    Some quickideas: (tho they have some flaws, need to think longer about this)

    - How about splitting tech up? Having some stuff to upgrade permanently for levels and some stuff that you have to unlock again with levelups after you died. (this system would ofc need to be there for both sides, some weapons + exo and higher lifeforms or something like that)

    - Alternative idea, have some kind of cooldown timers after you died with higher tech, the timer can be reduced by getting xp in your more basic equipment/lifeform. (maybe only have this active if ppl are getting over the lifeform/equipment limit that is set)

    dunno.

    I think hydras need a serious buff in combat, as they are made of wet paper and die in 2 seconds. In NS1, it was a death sentence to charge into a corridor with hydras mindlessly.. not so much anymore in NS2. I see time and time again marines completly ignoring the hydras and just charging in to get a cheap kill on a gorge since he has no way to defend him self. In NS1 you could make webs, and the spit didn't suck so hard and you could actually hit stuff with it.

    We are planning a complete rewrite of the XP system in the next few months, allowing you to spend non-refundable XP on structures like turrets and crags/shades, with a new menu prototype being developed by Jibrail and a rewrite of the upgrade system by me and Jim (as well as new abilities like magno boots, web and devour that we have been working on). This should give us more flexibility to allow people to specialise their classes and make the gorge more useful late-game. When we've firmed up the plans we'll do a little post about it.

    Try out the new Onos devour ability and tell us what you think.
    some known bugs so far

    when devoured you can't see chat and still get medpacks if you got the resupply upgrade, also need to check that you can't devour marines with spawn protect.
    devoured with SG ---> onos killed ---> reappeared with rifle
    we still have issues with blink and leap but its much better than the version before that so we are getting there thanks to Jim.

    would be nice if there would be a "ns2 combat" mode though. your mod here is great, i enjoy it playing, but having a mod for training ns2 gameplay would be nice

    Well that's the drawback of leaving things up to community mods :P If you want a more "purist" game mode like that without any crazy new stuff or NS1 callbacks, odds are it will have to be an official mode. Not to mention that you can't point new players to start with an unofficial mod. However if UWE wanted manpower for a project like that I'm sure they would get support if they put out a call to arms and provided some basic parameters for people to work within...

    i dont think that such a mod needs to be official. its something i would want to have to train the game better, for a tournament for example (though i dont play competitive games myself)

    I think he means just abilities that only exist in NS2, and not additional (like magnoboots or devour).

    You can eat your teammates with devour. Makes for a ridiculous game ...and you can never really totally eat another onos.

    You also egg on the marine team. Its quite hilarious
