Ground Lerking

<div class="IPBDescription">Is it just me or is this seriously effective</div>So because Lerks don't really collide with walls any more, you can get a really fast belly slide-esque thing going on. Its obviously been possible ever since the collision change went in, but I don't see many Lerks throwing it into their evasive manoeuvres. Trust me, there is nothing more unexpected than a lerk flying straight down into the ground and sliding out of the room at close to the speed of light.

Its because the onground check specifically was coded to ignore if your gliding as a lerk, why they made it this way is pretty dumb but the lerk has had quite a few buffs to make the flight model not punish you when you make mistakes.

######, I have been enjoying this.

I feel its an accidental bug so that lerks dont stop dead if they bounce off the ground by accident. Try ground lerking with a little more angle down, and you stop dead. On second thought, maybe its more like Bhop in NS1.

regardless, I hope you find a good fix. Just try not to screw lerks who skim close to the ground. (I find diving low throws off many marines who expect lerks to go up and away.)

It has been like this since 222. I even made a video back then :>.

edit: might be something different though, idk

It feels like you go faster when you do this but it might be an optical illusion from the floor being right next to you. It's pretty fun though!

You pretty much just press and hold space once from the ground and instantly go down to the floor again. You then accelerate to 13.2 speed in like 1 second and can keep it forever, unless you get unlucky on stairs or run headfirst into a wall/rock/marine.

I'm eager to implement lerk races now.

I remember when you'd come to a complete dead stop if you were gliding about and you even slightly brushed against something under you. No better way to get blasted apart by a shottie than stopping while sporing.

The lame thing is that, while this is pretty silly for sliding along floors in open rooms, I really like the way it works in vents.

Outside of this, do lerks feel slower in the air to anyone in this patch?

i intend to fix this, so you would only accelerate when you actually perform a vertical move instead of just looking down as it currently is.

Theres a few tweaks you could make, you can also glide directly up in the air and you'll never actually stop. You'll slow down but continue to gain altitude at a steady pace.

I remember when you could actually fly 10% faster than the speedlimit if you were flying really close to the ground like this, only you would stop completely if you so much as touched it.

I think it would be really cool if lerk fight actually used an energy model. Exchanging between potential energy and kinetic energy as you glide up or down, flaps add energy, air friction removes it. Would inherently protect against exploits like this.

Be a lot of work (mathwise especially, I think?) for simple movement though.
