Lasting With No Hives

I was playing in a LAN party and it was me with a newb on aleins, against 3 marines. My guy had no idea what he was doing even after I explained the game to him. He was suprisingly good at biting rampages with a skulk but we still lost. I tried desperately to get another hive on ns_eclipse(we started with comp core) but they got HMG REALLY soon and we were scewed. I decided to use our remaining res to make a regeneration place were i could live after the hives were down. I found that the vent right in the comp core hive location had places were I could build def towers and even some OC. I skulked, went in there, gorged and built about 6-7 def chambers and put about 3 OC at each entrance. I told my buddy to come in but he died and they kiled the last hive. After a bit they started yelihng at me about y i havnt died and they figure out I had def chambers. Now it was the marines turn to "hunt" down an alein. THey had motion tracking so i couldnt move and i even put a coat over my head so they couldnt look on my screen. They had soo many res they randomly started building turr all over the map. eventually they found me and started nading the vent, I lasted a while until the OC went and they came in. It was sooo funny to cheat the freezing death from having no hives, it would hurt, then go up, and so on.

This is not directed at Brandaman, but at Kharaa in general. Marines too (what are you doing in the Kharaa forum?!) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The countdown was implemented to help prevent the Kharaa from dragging a lost game out. If there's no hope of winning, do both teams a favor and die or F4. Nobody enjoys watching you camp a vent for five minutes.

ifhe saidhe was saving for a hive then yeah id forgive him but to simply sit in a vent (and so close to comp cor hive too) foolish.

nah, it's still fun even watching the last person "struggle to survive"
i hate the beeping death though.. that's lame

so a game i just got done playing, our gorge had sections up with OC's and DC's.. the marines had HA and welders so they were having fun welding everything.. the comments the guy made as gorge were hilarious. something like how the 'red room' has DChambers there..

of course he was the only one who went and he said "well i guess i get to survive"
they attacked those towers, and he made it to another DC area.. some more comments were made there and a marine was attacking.. he took him down, but right when he did, the beeping killed him

it was awesome, i must say

I don't get why Aliens have to die when all hives are lost, sometimes you see one of the Marines hide with a JetPack and a HMG in a vent, thus no Skulk can get close unless he runs out of ammo or doesn't look behind him every 3-5 seconds - The marines should automatically get parasited.. And I really hate it when they weld theirselfs in..

The aliens are all part of a hivemind. If the hives are all dead, there's no more mind. No mind, no survival. It makes sense.

Actually I think the game should not end until you can't build a hive. That is as long as you have one resource node up and collecting a gorge could get a hive up. There have been games I've been in where a second hive is building but we die because the first one dies, we could have come back and won that game except fot the 'free' kills the hive death gives the marines. Yes those occurances are few and far between, but they are there, people should have a chance to play the game like that. So it should be as long as resources are being collected the aliens live, once all resource nodes go down and the gorge does not have enough for a hive, all aliens die. As long as they have 1 gorge and enough for a hive they should live to try and MAKE that hive.

you get resources even with no nodes, just very very slowly. BUt it makes since for kharaa to die with no hives but rines have no reason to pass away with out a comm chair, so it makes sense to me. But i have built myself up in DC's then waited and gotten the nessarsary resources then built a hive and had a huge comeback in the game, though we still lost

The map with the main aft and refinery hive and hive that is over the water has a good d chamber place. Above the hive by the water is a small hole in the roof, you can put 4 or 5 d chambers up there and hide. They also heal the hive and the marines can't see them.

What I still cannot understand is why the aliens get poked to death when the hives die but when a llama marine decides to inspect the plumbing in some remote access hatch after all IP's and the CC are gone, he gets to stick around as long as he likes.

It wouldn't be so bad if the death poke stopped when you started the hive, but nope! Those defense chambers better be nearby, cuz you're gonna have to run your fat little bum right back over there and just hope the marines are stupid. The worst is the triumph of getting a hive up... then dying 3 seconds later and the game ending. Arg.

I play both sides, thats why i post here. Sometimes i post strategies i use as marine in the kharaa forum and vice versa for strategies for kharaa in the marine.

The countdown is used to prevent llamas, and anyone trying to find a way around it is officially a llama.

A marine countdown may yet be implemented; time will tell. The reason the Kharaa got one first is that a skulk can hide in many places that only a marine with a jetpack can get to, and this was being abused frequently on pubs. The protruding nail gets hammered first.
