The new Infestation looks great

<div class="IPBDescription">Although it is stupid...</div>so... Does anybody even use the awesome new infestation graphics?
I had them enabled for 1 minute before i turned it off again.
Those Blobs block so much of your vision.
A corridor looks half as big with maximum infestation than with minimal. And those blobs often completely block the vision into vents as well...
So while it looks awesome its a huge gameplay disadvantage in some situations.
Either adapt the new graphics for a better playability or force them on everyone.

plus, there are only certain corridors that get so bad it obscures vision. I'm thinking of departures in docking specifically, along with vents.
And it gets bad at alot of places, its simply way harder to see aliens and marines alike.
Also i play for fun too, but its not fun to get ###### by a skulk that you didnt see because of those large blobs...

What tells you that it's not 100% clientside with a randomising algorithm for the pattern. Maybe that huge blob block that you are trying to hide in isn't even there on other player's clients?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I assumed it was server side, but seeing as you can turn it off I imagine all the server knows is the area of effect, not the actual look of it. Everyones looks a little different. Thats another reason why it shouldn't be obscuring peoples vision - some people may randomly get less obscuring than others.
Besides that, it looks way better then the old overlapping glide animation of infestation.
I leave it on most of the time, but in comp games I turn it off.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
Oh and, yeah, infestation looks epic now, but it makes my pc pump out blood, instead of results.
Well, since NS2 is mostly CPU-heavy, the fps-gain would be very small (unless you're on a really poopy rig), and you would end up with a net loss because of how much grittier the view becomes at such a low res (since it makes it harder to distinguish stationary skulks at a distance).
I don't have any problems with infestation, I really like it's look.
It doesn't handicap me or anything, I'm usually the one in the team on first place or 2nd at least.
Pub playing only, though.
not effectively though, the blobs are client side so you think you might be hiding when in fact you are in plain sight :P
Sad to think people turn it off, makes it feel soo much less friendly when your deep in alien territory.
I am a fan and look forward to future tweaks to improve appearance and behaviour.
My suggestion was simply that they should adapt it, as in smaller blobs and less vision obscuring so everyone can use it without a disadvantage towards players with minimum infestation.
Exactly, at first I thought I could be sneaking a put a hydra into a blob and marines wouldn't be able to see it. It would have probably worked as long as they don't turn infestation setting down on their pc.

I will agree with you. I love the way it looks but it blocks too much view so I turn it off to see better.
Old (flat textures that got applied over entire room steadily):

New (actual growth that moves around and forms clumps):

Yeah, that can be annoying. Trying to figure out why infestation isn't receding in an area and can't find the cyst hidden in the blobs.
