Hi, I used to get an error - Log.txt etc when loading precache files when joining a server but now just times out everytime at the same point or I got the builded 228 error thing, tryed all these things you have all posted and I still cant play the damn game :( I pre-ordered this and still not getting to play it :/ no matter what I do, please help.

I just get a black menu screen, other people are reporting menu sound working with the black screen but as far as i can tell, not even that is working for me ... managed to play 5-6 games when i first downloaded after the official release, and then this started happening, I'm assuming after the latest patch. iassdo.dll.mui is a problem with my system install. ill fix it in the mourning and post update if it fixes this, black screen. "sfc /scannow" id'ed the this problem, maybe my end? will see. drunk nerd to the rescue.

Well I managed to create a listen server. Load up the veil map, went through the precachcing stuff like a charm and then play in my own way. Joining a server on the internet after that just loads up the map fine and I am able to chat / talk to the people in there for about 1 minute, till the red 'disconnect' plug is showing on the left side of the screen.
Been having that for a while not. Seriously takes down all the pleasure of me trying out this game... grmbl...

Hello I'm getting the wonderful black screen on start-up, I get the cursor and all sounds, but everything else is completely black. I've been getting it sense launch day. I tried everything on the first page. I've went into C:\...\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2 and there is only two files in there. I did delete this folder a few times, also i reran the dxsetup a few times in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\redist\DirectX folder.
I also deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\shaders folder and went and re-verified the files, and had it re-downloaded.
I see this post above mine showing what to copy and paste into run but that particular string doesn't do anything for me. I'm in windows 7 64 bit, using a AMD radeon HD 6900.
I tried running everything on default settings in CCC, also tried various settings for catalyst AI sense that is known to cause some issues. I've re-installed the game, after deleting all folders pertaining to NS2. Also this game was gifted to me. So i'm not sure if your gifted version of ns2, and the one players actually bought are linked to the same exact download, or if they are two separate builds. This is currently the only game that I'm experencing any problems with. I made sure my video drivers were up-to-date none-the-less.
I'm having the black screen bug. I can view the menus fine, connect, load, precache... then I get a black screen where I can only see the orange and blue overlays for the teams in the Ready Room. I'm using a Geforce Go 7900 GS w/512MB. I've tried both driver versions 179.67 (the most recent official driver from Windows Update), and 259.47 (doesn't seem to be an official release, but it's WHQLed nonetheless). I'll attempt some troubleshooting steps in this thread once I get home.
The game is completely unplayable at this point, and I'm really looking forward to getting started! Please help!
I'm having (what I suppose is) the same black screen problem too. After loading the map, the only thing visible are a few lights and the "Alien" and "Marine" signs to join a game. When I activate the option "Ambient Occlusion", I see the map background (Cloudy sky and mountains). However, if I then deactivate the ambient occlusion again, the entire screen goes white instead of black. I have an Nvidia Geforce GT 650M with 1GB of Memory, running a 64bit windows 7 system.
In my log file I have a huge amount of these error messages: "Error: IDirect3DDevice9::CreateTexture(1280x800, 1, D3DFMT_A2R10G10B10) failed (Invalid call) Error: Couldn't create render target 1280x800"
Followed at the very end of the file by this one: "Error: Attempted to load remote options from a file that does not exist."
I already tried all the troubleshooting options I could find around these forums, including running the dxsetup, deleting shader folder + verifying integrity of game cache, deleting NS folder in %appdata%, reinstalling the entire NS, putting all the grafics settings on the absolute minimum, grafics drivers are updated...
Edit: With ambient occlusion enabled, I'm able to see all effects, lights and interface, just no textures.
I'm having very slight problems with crashing. My game has only crashed twice in twelve hours, one was map changing and one was early in a game so it's not too bad. But what's really annoying me is the constant empty server list, it's obvious it's bugged.
I have to sit there for a few minutes before some servers show, but then it will stop and not show all the servers and if I try to join the small list of servers that come out I instantly lose connection and as soon as I go back to refreshing the server list again it's nothing, then wait a while and repeat.. If I'm lucky then I can get into a server every now and then and actually play for hours.
It's still very annoying though, and I've been through a lot of post in this thread and not a lot of people seem to have this problem?
just some personal experience input. Had the same problem with the blackscreen of death. Loading the game (even after the tips and reinstalling) gave me a complete blackscreen, not only just displaying blackpixels, no actually it seemed it denied any data to the monitor. I had a similar problem with Orc must die!, maybe in their forum are solutions.
I found a way to start NS2. I editet the system_options.xml so it used my actual screen resolution (default of the file was 1280x800. I use 1920x1080) and it started after a "long" loading time. alt+tab still kills the signal to the monitor, but sound was to be heard.
Running the game in windowed mode also works (but not windowed fullscreen). Starting Orcs must die! with the launch option to run it windowes solved the problem there. So maybe give us some launch options to start the game windowed.

What happens if you try to connect to my server at saturn.internetuplink.com ? open console with ~, type: "connect saturn.internet.uplink.com", hit enter Just to be thorough: have you disabled/unscribed from any mods installed and verified your NS2 Steam cache?

That being said: Make sure if you're using a laptop GPU to enable texture streaming in the options. And also that your video card is being used. Check the console when in game, (~ key) and it should said something like "Rendered with: Nvidia geforce 7900" and NOT "integrated intel graphics"

or the graphics card NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 1GB is out of memory and GPU ?
All I seen before was the Invalid calls. But this "smkloop" is invalid format. What could it mean I wonder?

Joining a server on the internet after that just loads up the map fine and I am able to chat / talk to the people in there for about 1 minute, till the red 'disconnect' plug is showing on the left side of the screen.
Been having that for a while not. Seriously takes down all the pleasure of me trying out this game... grmbl...

Is the top section of my log.txt which you can guess the rest of the log I'm sure. It's about 100 lines like "Error: Couldn't load shader 'shaders/Level.surface_shader' for material 'materials/refinery/refinery_wall_01.material'"
I've went into C:\...\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2 and there is only two files in there. I did delete this folder a few times, also i reran the dxsetup a few times in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\redist\DirectX folder.
I also deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2\ns2\shaders folder and went and re-verified the files, and had it re-downloaded.
I see this post above mine showing what to copy and paste into run but that particular string doesn't do anything for me. I'm in windows 7 64 bit, using a AMD radeon HD 6900.
I tried running everything on default settings in CCC, also tried various settings for catalyst AI sense that is known to cause some issues. I've re-installed the game, after deleting all folders pertaining to NS2. Also this game was gifted to me. So i'm not sure if your gifted version of ns2, and the one players actually bought are linked to the same exact download, or if they are two separate builds. This is currently the only game that I'm experencing any problems with. I made sure my video drivers were up-to-date none-the-less.
The game is completely unplayable at this point, and I'm really looking forward to getting started! Please help!
I have an Nvidia Geforce GT 650M with 1GB of Memory, running a 64bit windows 7 system.
In my log file I have a huge amount of these error messages:
"Error: IDirect3DDevice9::CreateTexture(1280x800, 1, D3DFMT_A2R10G10B10) failed (Invalid call)
Error: Couldn't create render target 1280x800"
Followed at the very end of the file by this one:
"Error: Attempted to load remote options from a file that does not exist."
I already tried all the troubleshooting options I could find around these forums, including running the dxsetup, deleting shader folder + verifying integrity of game cache, deleting NS folder in %appdata%, reinstalling the entire NS, putting all the grafics settings on the absolute minimum, grafics drivers are updated...
Edit: With ambient occlusion enabled, I'm able to see all effects, lights and interface, just no textures.
I have to sit there for a few minutes before some servers show, but then it will stop and not show all the servers and if I try to join the small list of servers that come out I instantly lose connection and as soon as I go back to refreshing the server list again it's nothing, then wait a while and repeat.. If I'm lucky then I can get into a server every now and then and actually play for hours.
It's still very annoying though, and I've been through a lot of post in this thread and not a lot of people seem to have this problem?

just some personal experience input. Had the same problem with the blackscreen of death. Loading the game (even after the tips and reinstalling) gave me a complete blackscreen, not only just displaying blackpixels, no actually it seemed it denied any data to the monitor.
I had a similar problem with Orc must die!, maybe in their forum are solutions.
I found a way to start NS2. I editet the system_options.xml so it used my actual screen resolution (default of the file was 1280x800. I use 1920x1080)
and it started after a "long" loading time.
alt+tab still kills the signal to the monitor, but sound was to be heard.
Running the game in windowed mode also works (but not windowed fullscreen).
Starting Orcs must die! with the launch option to run it windowes solved the problem there.
So maybe give us some launch options to start the game windowed.

What happens if you try to connect to my server at saturn.internetuplink.com ? open console with ~, type: "connect saturn.internet.uplink.com", hit enter

Your video card is below the minimum requirements... so no guarantees.
That being said:
Make sure if you're using a laptop GPU to enable texture streaming in the options.
And also that your video card is being used. Check the console when in game, (~ key) and it should said something like "Rendered with: Nvidia geforce 7900" and NOT "integrated intel graphics"
