Does it offer a LAN mode, or do you have to play over Internet?

    Errm, there's nothing stopping you from playing NS2 on a LAN... Run a server on the LAN, connect to the server by IP on the LAN... Probably even works with Steam in offline mode, although I haven't actually tried running the game without an internet connection.

    This can be quite useful at a LAN party, as it's not always possible to get an internet connection at a LAN party.

    Well seeing as how the game comes with the server client I would say, yes it has LAN.

    Yes, NS2 supports LAN play.

    No guys. There is no LAN mode. You can play with other people on your network sure, but there needs to be an outside connection to the internet for authorization. A LAN mode would allow you to play without that.

    there is a LAN mode (and was in beta builds) but it hasn't made it into the current server browser ui yet.

    Steam has an offline mode, if we're talking about the game requiring Steam.

    "LAN Mode" in the gaming community means being able to play on a closed LAN without the required outside internet connection. Steam's Offline mode still won't allow it.
