Everyone should strive to reduce this kind of behaviour because it looks badly upon the gaming community of your choice if it gets a reputation for rude/unhelpfulness. Ultimately though as you can see with LoL reputation has nearly no effect on anything other then your general experience.
That said, there is no point in getting really worked up about it because the truth of the matter is that online gaming is still full of kids who don't give a fck what you think and 20 somethings who dont give a fck even more because they never matured but got better at being mean. If you respond to these weird people who get fun out of flaming others then you are actually just inviting more of the same.
I suggest you just tell them to stop being a ###### in open chat and maybe others will chime in as well. If they respond by escalating the flaming, use the mute button.
This topic is pointless. This isn't the ideal perfect world where everyone is compassionate and everyone has the dream life and everyone is going to suddenly stop being rude. This is such a trivial problem compared to maintaining server costs and (for the devs) developing an Indie game.

That's the problem with metaphors. Not everybody get them. To your information other countries have other laws. In Germany for example, your right of free speech is capped by the right of others. Actually it exists a law here, that forbids insulting people. But that doesn't even matter. The point was, that you don't have to be an idiot just because you can.
