Your core should be fine. According to http://www.naturalselection2.com/, the recommended system requirements state that the processor needs to be Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz.

As for the graphics, the site states "DirectX 9 compatible video card with 1GB, AMD 5770, NVidia GTX 450 or better".

On that system you would expect 20-40 fps by 1.0 - however that system is 4 years old, getting long in the tooth. Might be worth just saving for a new system for the future, as all the other latest games release requirements will be higher than what you have.

You need to overclock the ###### out of that if you want to get even stable 40fps.

I have an old Phenom x4 9650 2.3ghz(OC'd at 2.76GHz) 4gb ram with a GTX 450 OC 1GB, the game is playable for the start of the rounds but then eventually it lags down to less than 20fps in the high action areas. This is on 1280x800 with all settings turned off, textures at medium. The game is totally playable with all the settings turned to high, but only for a few minutes into the round then its a slideshow. I am not sure if the bottleneck is happening first, at my CPU or GPU...? Although I know both are slowing me down in the end.
