Hey guys, I just got my hands on a NS2 pre-order copy, but I can't seem to find any information on how to get beta access. Anyone wanna give me a heads up? Thanks in advance.
What a terrible marketing decision. So you can preorder the game, but you can't join the other players who already have beta access? No thank you. Gonna look elsewhere for a new game to play.

You can preorder the game and join others who preordered and will get access on the 31st of Oct 2012.
Just like people who bought access to the beta joined others with beta access.
Like those who bought the special edition join others with special edition.
Have fun with your new game. But be warned. If you buy another game you might only get what you pay for!
It seems like a win/win to charge a little extra for pre-order w/instant beta access up to release, or at least leave it open till after your big marketing push. A couple months ago I had never heard of ns2 so never had the chance to jump in. I guess they're rewarding the players who have been there from the start though, which is fine, but still they would make more money leaving it open IMO.

But seriously, who do I have to blow to get into the beta?

Most other games that you pre-order on steam do not give beta access, so make sure you order a game that's actually released if you want to play it now.
If not, you only have to wait 18 days for NS2 to be released. It is a shame your lack of patience will stop you from enjoying one of the most original and fun games ever created.
Entitled? Sure, why not. Turns out, I only have a limited amount of hours in a day to play a game, and there are hundreds of games released every year that I can play. I even got to the paypal screen, then decided to re-read what I would have access to, and it did not include the beta and I could not play this weekend. Apparently they've received enough preorders and gave out enough beta access, that they don't feel its necessary to offer this bonus to any more preorders. That's just their loss.

Yet your limited hours allow you to come complain on the forums of a game you decided not to play. Begone, troll!
You're making it sound as though UWE or the community are the ones missing out because of your new boycott of the game because you don't know how to take it when you don't get what you want when you want it....
In fact, the only party that loses out with this amazing game and the associated community experience, is you. Goodbye

People who just heard about it yesterday will play it for a few hours, decide it is too buggy/unbalanced whatever and not want to play again.
Everyone will get to play the game in just over two weeks and will enjoy a more polished product. The fact that people like OP really can't just wait a few days is astounding and will receive little sympathy from a community that has waited years.
i suspect, that players like Astrifer will be disillusioned anyway, because of the complex gameplay and the time you need to master the game ... This game is no Call of Duty and all the new players will definitely suck in the first days and probably weeks ... guys like him are usually not very persistent, when it comes to learning a difficult game

So your primary problem with NS2 is that it isn't released yet? There are quite a few games which aren't released yet. In fact, I can even think of quite a few triple A games that, at some point in time or another, had not yet been released.

Exactly this.
I made the mistake of getting friends into the beta who had no interest in NS before, and they couldn't stand imbalance or bugs.
Just wait for the finished product, its not long now.

Take a good look at the joined date, on most people here on the forums. Its patient people who in most cases have waited half a decade. NS2 as stated above isnt a easy game to learn and master, and to be honest, being impatient will most like get you killed in this game, you cant simple rush into combat. This is the first time i ever said this. But if you realy expect to get any sympathy for you lack of knowledge of the Develpment process, and what a Beta intails, this probaly isnt the right game for you. - Its in Beta, not a AAA marketing hype, and you clearly shown you want a polished working perfectly from first install game. This isnt it.

This beta is a real beta. It's not like the the ###### AAA game betas (i.e. battlefield, etc) that are nothing but a marketing ploy to get people playing. Those betas are nothing but demos, with hardly any fixes before release.
This on the other hand has over gone many changes since I started to play the beta less than 3 months ago. When I first started to play, it would only run at 15 frames per second. Now I get 60. People like you would instantly leave this beta because it's effectively not a demo.
Besides, a lot of games out there don't give you early access for pre-ordering.Thinking that the pre-order will give you beta access is one hell of an asinine presumption.
This is going no where. With only a few weeks until release there is not much time until everyone can play.
You can always catch some of the streams this and next weekend to see if any beta keys are being given out. I have no idea if they will be, but that's the only way at this point.
