It would also be nice if the destination phasegate is getting attacked that all other phase gates flash red and the blue holographic thingy goes red and static with each hit to indicate malfunction on the other end (and you don't go thru to your doom, unless everyone else is going in with you) :)

    Nice idea, but visually I'd prefer some kind of overhead panel with an LCD display of the location name.

    Also, once you do that, you can rig the phase gates so that you go different places depending on which side you go into. That way you can go either forward or backward along the phase network.

    Although now that I think about it, one wonders why the system still even works this way, why we aren't able to click on the map to choose a destination after we run through. That would make a lot more sense. I think the current system is just a hold over from a simple way of coding it in HL1.

    I agree, it would be nice if upon entering the phase you got a map view and could click on the phase you wanted to exit from.

    Choosing a destination could waste time if there are only 2-3 pgs, i prefer the auto phase, but it would be nice to have them networked to go forward and backward, with a panel telling where it goes

    Take far to long when quick phases are needed.
    Selecting the priority order of phases should be a commander option, not a player.

    There used to be a NS1 mod for this. Only really helpful when you had more than 3 PGs. At which point WHY DO YOU HAVE MORE THAN 3 PHASE GATES?

    I think it's a good idea, and as a strategic choice by the commander, should be an option available to the commander. (The phase gate priority list etc).

    While i tend to agree that spamming PG's isn't particularly viable, that's just a strategic opinion, which should be left to the commander/players in the match, and not decided as some arbitrary 'fact' on the forum. More options for the commander is good and encourages better comming.

    I think the idea was eventually for this to be like portal, where you can see through to the other side.

    please don't derail the thread with another choose your destination discussion- I'd just like a simple desination to be listed - this doesnt cause any imbalanced or major gameplay changes, its just a useful piece of info, so that we know whether this PG is the right one to go through or whether I'll need to go through again.

    i like the idea in general, but i am concerned that it might clutter the view. there is already a lot going on in your HUD, especially inside your bases.

    I like the simple name of the area its going to phase too, I also like the idea of one side of the PG going forward and one backwards.
    Creates a reason to not build them facing walls.
    ONly question is whether its intuitive to a player (or if it confuses them to see same pg taking them to different location).

    I' rather have a button(maybe the Evolve button) that pops up a menu with a minimap with PGs highlighted and also list of PG names, so one can pick a PG to phase to(via map or the list) and could do that while running to the closest, so no delay at the first PG caused by picked the second PG. Also this would make the PG look clean and would work if there are really many PGs. As addition, commander could just set the second PG for whole team, so all you need to do is step once into the nearest PG.

    Side-suggestion: would be nice to have the phase plane jitter while the PG projecting it is being attacked =)
    Another side-suggestion: add the tech progress right to the Evolve menu and the suggested Phase menu, so you can always see what tech your team has from any location.

    Also would like to be able to temporarily disable a phase gate as commander, so teammates do not need to phase so many times to get where I want.

    Since teams rarely use more than three phase gates, having each side transfer players to a different exit would effectively connect every gate to every other gate most of he time.

    In that case they should go with what I suggested: Each side of the gate goes someplace different, so that way you can jump around even faster to the correct area.


    I also would probably rather see through the gate to the area it goes to, that would look cooler and achieve a similar effect. If you really want you can label over the top of it the name of the room it goes to. I don't think it makes sense to put the words right on the portal screen itself.

    I support this naming scheme. I also support for a commander to designate a phase gate as the "out point" (with a reset ability too) for emergency situations

    Hi, if you implement this, i would also like you to consider making it so that going through each side of the phase gate, sends you to a different location. This would of course only work if there was text on each side like the op here wants.

    I see this as an alternative to giving commander the ability to set phase gate destinations (which i would also like), this might be easier to implement though.
