fps lag

What is it with the freaking fps lag STILL, although this game was supposed to be released in fall 2009.

In melee combat this game crawls down to 25 fps with an HD 6970, what the heck is going on? How the hell can anyone seriously test this game with such a mindcrushing low performance? And why does it take so long to improve this although improvements have been promised years back!

Yes the game was supposed to be out 2009. It's not. I don't know of any game dev that has never delayed a title to make it better. They're also a indie game company, not Bioware or Blizzard. They have 7 guys. Not 700. Patience is a virtue if you want to help and support this game and the community. Release is Summer 2012.

I need your full system specs from DxDiag before I can help diagnose what your issue is, though I suspect it's because of your CPU not your GPU holding back the game.

In console, try r_rawinput and see if that helps with your situation.

phenom II 6x 3.5 ghz + hd 6970 + 8gig ram. Without action I get around 40 fps when a hive location is crowded with buildings, during action (melee combat) it crawls down to sub 30 fps meaning it is not worth a damn playing atm.

EDIT: bf3 runs at 60+ fps on my system, constantly.
EDIT2: r_rawinput helps alittle when not in action, but as soon as stuff is happening framerate goes down the ######, especially on tram. What is wrong with that map anyhow ...

Vanillamarine, your fps sounds about right with current state of ns2

However, please refrain yourself from bashing the game or devs but be thankful for the miracle

we are so privileged to witness in summer 2012!

In my experience the game is generally less laggy in 202 than it was before. However in a few situations (like aliens rushing the marine base etc.) the lag comes back in full force.

Same here, lategame fps are just horrendous. (Largely due to lots of buildings and players being in one room it seems)
But yeah, performance is their number 1 priority, so just stick around, it will get better. (It will have to)

i'm on an amd/ati setup and the past 6 or so builds have seen steadily dropping fps...around b190 i had 35-40 frames in combat, last build i went to 20-25 fps in combat, i'm down to around 10-15 now. it's pretty bad.

We have a few people with Phenoms, and they also report a similar issue. The Phenom tech on the chip is just not as quick in single-threaded tasks as the Intel tech, which is why AMD went for a larger number of cores. Those other games are much more multi-threaded than NS2 is, so that's why you get less performance with NS2, and more on the more multi-threaded games.

UWE is always working on bettering performance, I'm afraid unless you upgrade your PC, you'll have to wait and see how the game develops. It's a beta, things will get better, though I'd appreciate it if you and TruVeritas could keep your snide remarks to yourselves.

I am with you dude. Terrible performance all around, although I am not sure how much of it is server related.

AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs at 3.4GHz)
8GB Ram
OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD
PNY NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

CPU usage stays pretty steady around 40%, and I cant imagine the game is pushing my GTX 680. Not really sure where the performance bottleneck is here.

I've had a performance drop this build, but it's nothing to be overly concerned about. This game has had performance issues for a while. Back around 170s, 4v4 was completely terrible and hardly playable at times! Now we can get 9v9's or so until mid/late game where it all goes to hell. It's a beta and it's to be expected. With new builds comes new issues to be addressed.

Now if the game is released and I'm not getting at least 60 fps in much of the game on the lowest settings, i wont be playing! simple!

The problem with that logic is, that while true, you're ignoring the amount of time it took to get from there to here (a year and a half). If we extrapolate from here to summer 2012, we won't be at the desired performance-levels by a long shot. So if the devs still intend to get proper performance before v1.0, I must assume there is still something 'special' coming towards us down the road.

In the games current state I don't see how it's going to be finished by this summer.

It still needs lots of balancing, optimization and key features still need to be implemented.

there is some major fps loss with the new green blood effects, especially at close distance. as well as some other things like steam. (effects, not valve's distro)
they're workin on it.

late game is still related to tickrate dropping, i believe.

somehow i get higher fps with no hud elements on high graphics than i do with medium, which is in turn more fps than awful. of course once combat occurs it's the opposite.
also, it's not just in-game effects that slow down the game, i'm getting lower fps in the rr too.

I got a AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHZ overclocked to 3.6 GHZ
ATI Radeon 4890 HD
4 GB Ram

My performance raised with the latest 3 patches and the overclocking to 3.6 GHZ by about 15 fps.
Without action i get now 45-50 fps and 25-35 fps with action.Endgame is a other story.
But i have to say its playable for me now and i would recommend all with Phenom CPUs to try to overclock them because this game is very CPU intense.

EXACTLY!

My phenom II 965 OC to 3.7 ghz is more than enought for gaming, also i played every FPS/RST mix that exist a so its not genre related think...

My cpu usage while i play NS2 is around 35% - 40%... so make a picture :)

I understand that this is beta, that unknown worlds are small indie company... Thats ok a hope that perfomance will be better...

But dont tell us that our computer are problem! They are simply NOT! :) If my friend with newest sandy bridge cant get good fps in this game i dont kbow what PC can do :)

I have things on high. Running 5870+5970, i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz. I get around 60 with no action, and around 24-30 in combat. What's odd about the performance is that the graphics settings don't seem to make much of a difference. I see maybe 20% improvement in in combat frame rates if I go to the lowest settings. At the same time, it doesn't seem bottlenecked by my CPU, it has 3 cores at 40% and 1 core at 20%.

In build 201, at medium settings, I was getting about 40-45 FPS running around, dipping to 20-25 in some situations.

In build 202, I'm getting low 20s running around and like 10 in fights. :/
