<div class="IPBDescription">Mhm.</div>Big bulky ones, like a foot of solid steel with a little window. They can also link up with others and form a bigger shield, so you can push down corridors. Nanites!

The Riot shield in Counter-Strike really changed the game in a poor way. Valve proved already it's a bad idea.

riot shields might not be the thing for this game. When exo armor comes it'll be most likely something like riot shield when 3-4 of them stay together.

<img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/youreallwrong.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> Actually it was the Greeks and Macedonians who fought using the phalanx formation. And funnily it was the Romans who proved it was <b>not</b> a good idea: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_infantry_tactics#Roman_infantry_versus_Hellenic_phalanx" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_infantr...ellenic_phalanx</a> ;)

...but the Romans have proven that turtling is a good idea :P

Counter-Strike immediately came to my mind too. Surely OP is being sarcastic.

    Riot shields? Meh.

    No thanks.

If an Alien sees a riot shield, it will just ignore the shield and killing all the others marines, chuckling at the shielder and circle strafe bite/slash/swipe/heal to death.

Riot shields are good against missiles but not against fast melee.

What purpose would the riot shield serve? No enemy shoots projectiles except for lerks (near useless endgame) and gorges (needed only to heal endgame). Riot shield would only be beneficial with Marines vs marines otherwise you basically just gave up your attack to get meleed repeatedly by an enemy that specializes in melee attacks.

Because it defends against melee. Skulks, fades, and somewhat Onos. As I said, you form a wall, a barrier, and push towards their base.
