"back in the day" the only people you found playing games were the video game enthusiasts, now you'll find just about every kind of person playing, and as video games developed, so did the players. Almost everyone is more serious about gaming and more self-conscious about their skill, so it's harder to open up to people then it was. Conversations in a game used to be fun, now all you see in chats are whiners, trolls, elitist snobs and straight-up idiots. Its harder to find the people i WANT to talk to nowadays.
The friends i play video games with now are the same ones I've been playing with for the past ~8 years.

I think you never experienced playing with long time friends. Of course there are players who will help strangers, but if you play on a server where you know five players in your team for months or years then you will interact with them completely different, you know how they play and they know how you play; you know who of them is most likely to save you from a fade and so on. Also it's a different atmosphere playing with friends, in my experience it adds a lot to the fun of playing.

I'll actually use as much ammo as possible, ask the comm for ammo, and save enough rounds to kill a skulk, because I'm like that too.. hmm if only there was a way to say "aim better and cover me" without sounding too bossy :\

Actually I haven't really.. I'm getting a headset tomorrow so that will change, but I've never had a mic set up so typing was always too time consuming and it is easier to just have respect at all than true friendship.. besides, I'm all about not caring for anything at all ever.. it is my lifestyle, so live or die in a videogame.. nothing really upsets me and so if I have friends or not, there's no benefit or disadvantage imo :\ I mean yeah it would be nice maybe to have friends but without friendship I have learned that when you do not have friends, there is no one to disappoint, and I am never disappointed by anyone... however, that doesn't mean that I'm not respected by people that have seen what I am capable of. :P

You can say instead that you don't trust game's aim, because IMO it is not implemented into the game yet. When you start shooting, aiming is impossible, it gets stuck. I hope better performance will fix this

While most people will call you crazy for that I do respect your perspective. So I shall add a condition to what I have said: If you enjoy a certain amount of friendship and do benefit from it (and are not an aspie) then it is really a nice thing to join a server and be greeted by old pals with whom you have played many games already.
Then yeah I'm greeted by "friends" all the time.. I also greet people but they never feel like real friends.. :\ I can't go have a beer with them like my real friends. It's different :P

I was talking about NS1.
NS2's movement and control functions are incomplete and broken and have always been. I do know that :) It'll get fixed with many other things... one day.
